Lana Marye Morelli, MA, has led a lengthy career as a respected journalist, writer, and educator. The Delaware Valley reporter for the Courthouse News Service, she also is a freelance writer with The Cape Current, a publication of The Cape Gazette. Moreover, since 2012, Ms. Morelli has been a content writer for Phoenix Security Systems Inc.
Declaring writing to be her calling, Ms. Morelli ascribes her success to her great love for finding the way to best convey a story. She is motivated by the power of words to evoke emotion, connect people with each other, and bring stories to life. Her passion for her craft is evident in the high skill and dedication she brings to her work, and she plans to continue writing for as long as possible. Ms. Morelli gives equal credit for her accomplishments to the support of her family, especially her mother, who was her first editor. She is grateful for her husband, Eric, her aunts, Veronica and Pamela, as well as her sister, Pam, all of whom have been her biggest fans. Ms. Morelli’s family was always ready to listen and ceaselessly encouraged her to keep her career going and continue writing. In turn, she has consistently and proudly been published for the past 15 years and counting.
Further sharing her love of the written word, Ms. Morelli has worked as a professor for more than a decade. From 2011 to 2020, she was an adjunct English professor for Delaware County Community College, and from 2012 to 2021, she worked with Neumann University in the same capacity. During her own higher education, Ms. Morelli earned a diploma from The American University of Rome in 2004. In 2007, she graduated magna cum laude from Cabrini College, now Cabrini University, with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and sociology. After completing coursework in law at the Widener University School of Law in 2009, she matriculated at St. Joseph’s University, graduating summa cum laude with a Master of Arts in writing studies. From 2015 to 2018, Ms. Morelli was a professor with Thom Stecher & Associates, a network of professional educators.
For her career achievements, Ms. Morelli received a Neumann University Faculty Grant from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Consortium for Higher Education for “Building Faculty Capacity for 21st Century Teaching” in 2005. In addition, she was honored by the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C., as the “First Lady of the Press” in 2007. Staying entrenched in her industry as a contributor and a recipient of knowledge and best practices, she maintains membership in the Rehoboth Beach Writer’s Guild. Ms. Morelli believes strongly in the importance of women supporting each other. She knows firsthand that a strong network is vital for the progress of professional women and strives to see a fair and inclusive balance between genders in the workplace.
Throughout her esteemed writing career, Ms. Morelli has worked with the MediaNews Group, Philadelphia Magazine, Today Media, and the Courthouse News Service. Among her most notable pieces, she provided live criminal case coverage for the Bill Cosby trial from 2016 to 2019 and former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane in 2016. She was the editor-in-chief of the literary magazine The Avenue at her alma mater, St. Joseph’s University, from 2010 to 2011 and gained key experience as a correspondent with The Delaware County Daily Times from 2009 to 2012.
Looking ahead, Ms. Morelli aims to continue growing and streamlining another venture, The Media Property Group, the property management company she runs alongside her husband. She plans to continue writing for The Cape Current and the Courthouse News Service and expects to one day publish her own book.
