As an information technology specialist and cybersecurity team lead at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, she plays a pivotal role in safeguarding critical information systems and guiding strategic initiatives that protect sensitive data. Her leadership in risk mitigation and secure systems management is built on a foundation of technical expertise and a nuanced understanding of human behavior and digital threats.
Ms. Weitoish holds a Master of Science in cybersecurity from American Military University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She also earned a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in cyber leadership at Capitol Technology University and is on track to become the first in her family to earn a doctoral degree, a personal milestone that underscores her dedication to growth and achievement.
In recognition of her impact and dedication, Ms. Weitoish has been acknowledged through multiple honors, including the VA FSC/FTS Donkey Kong Award for exceeding job expectations and the Employee of the Year award from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. She also mentors graduate students at American Military University, sharing insights and guidance with aspiring cybersecurity professionals.
Ms. Weitoish’s professional path began in public service, working as a child protective services caseworker for Luzerne County Government: Children & Youth Services and as a therapeutic staff support at Friendship House in Scranton, Pennsylvania. These roles developed her skills in crisis response, communication and investigative work. She later spent time in Japan teaching English as a second language, gaining valuable cross-cultural experience and adaptability.
Building on her early experiences in public service and education, Ms. Weitoish transitioned to the private sector through roles at AT&T, starting as a customer support specialist in advanced technical support before advancing to the role of Mi-60 manager, or rapid response manager. Her cybersecurity career gained momentum with positions at Halfaker and Associates, LLC, working as a cyber engineer, cybersecurity analyst and SCCM administrator. She went on to become a cyber engineer and cybersecurity analyst at SAIC in Austin, Texas, leading a team responsible for critical systems.
Ms. Weitoish’s professional development is supported by a robust portfolio of certifications from respected institutions such as the Six Sigma Global Institute. These include lean six sigma expert, lean six sigma master black belt, agile leader certification and comptia security+ ce certification. She also participated in the Virtual Aspiring Supervisor Program at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, demonstrating a commitment to leadership within the federal workforce.
Ms. Weitoish is an active member of several industry organizations, including Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Women in Defense and the Military Cybersecurity Professionals Association.
