Heidi Loewen

Heidi Loewen has found success as a distinguished curator, gallerist and sculptor with many years of experience in the New York, Boston and Santa Fe, New Mexico, art worlds. She attributes her success to her parents, who encouraged her to approach the world with kindness and creative authenticity. Loewen grew up in Rochester, New York, in an artistic, musical and scientific family. Music and her love of the outdoors continue to be a source of inspiration. As an avid skier, the snow-covered moguls greatly influence her porcelain and metal sculptures. She discovered that the business of art is just as rewarding as creating sculpture in metal and clay, also evidenced with her numerous high-level corporate team-building classes.

Ms. Loewen attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in fine art, art history and languages. She also studied abroad for a year at the Sorbonne in Paris. From 1979 to 1985, she worked as the business manager of the prestigious Sotheby’s Art Auction House in New York. She left Sotheby’s to become assistant curator for the Spring Creek Art Foundation in Boston. After her son Hans was born in 1990, she moved her family to Santa Fe, where she opened her own gallery and teaching school. Ms. Loewen has achieved great success as gallerist, artist and teacher at Heidi Loewen Fine Art Gallery in Santa Fe.

Ms. Loewen was an active Santa Fe Art Gallery Association board member and taught ceramics for the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Her six-foot, metal, ruby red stiletto sculpture, “It’s the Shoe that Makes the Woman,” is a Santa Fe landmark on the roof of her gallery. She was the honored Santa Fe Artist of the Year and is a recipient of many awards from Miami Basel, Art Santa Fe, Western University of New Mexico, UNESCO-South Korea and Harvard University. Ms. Loewen continues to show her work around the world. She will publish a book of her work in the near future. Additionally, she has been invited to prestigious international exhibitions and is always expanding her extensive network of collectors.
