With more than 40 years of professional experience, Bernice M. Narvaez has been a principal systems engineer with the Raytheon Company since 2017, having formerly been the IT program manager and principal systems engineer from 2015 to 2017. Prior to obtaining these roles, she was the lead systems engineer for software development with Praxis Engineering Technologies LLC from 2009 to 2015 and she previously held a number of positions with the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), including senior business process consultant from 2004 to 2006 and business process reengineering specialist from 2000 to 2004.
From 1994 to 1997 and again from 1999 to 2000, Ms. Narvaez was a senior consultant with Comsys Information Technology Services, Inc., and, from 1997 to 1999, she was on the technical staff of IBM Global Services. She was previously a systems analyst with MCI Communications Corporation from 1990 to 1994 and a computer programmer with Ciber Consultant/MCI from 1989 to 1990. Earlier in her career, Ms. Narvaez was a computer programmer for the University of Texas at Houston from 1985 to 1989 and an engineer with Shell Oil Company from 1978 to 1981.
Alongside her primary career endeavors, Ms. Narvaez was the former president of Golden Sunset Services in 2010, having been the president and co-founder of two online retail stores, GS4LESS and DealHawks. Civically involved as well, she volunteered on the industry advisory board of various public schools and was on the process improvement committee of the SAIC. Likewise, she participated with the Darfur Relief Fund, the Watchtower Society, Habitat for Humanity and the International Council on Systems Engineering. She also contributed to the MIT Alumni Fund.
Ms. Narvaez took care of her grandmother, who was dying of cancer, along with her family and that led her interest in senior care. As a child, she wondered how things worked, but as she got older, she wanted to be more impactful. Ms. Narvaez wanted to be head of a facility, which focused on helping people get better and reassuring families that their loved ones are taken care of properly. She wanted to ensure that the facilities are suitable. Additionally, with the help of her husband, she was able continue her first love, which is technology.
Ms. Narvaez began her career as a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1978. She later continued her studies with George Washington University, earning a Master of Science in management information systems in 1994. Certified in CISSP, ISC2 and CMMI, she has also been licensed in assisted living management, CPR, first aid, emergency/disaster and medication technician, cryptology, project management, cloud technology, cloud security and web development.
Throughout her career, Ms. Narvaez has been recognized for her achievements. She has received awards and accolades for her contributions. She has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World. Ms. Narvaez is as successful as she is because of the people who believed in her. She always wondered how things work and she always liked technology.
