Ann-Maria Ewel

Ann-Maria Ewell has built a career defined by perseverance, precision and a commitment to operational excellence in health care administration. As senior operations and revenue administrator for Weill Cornell Medicine Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, she plays a critical role in managing the department’s revenue cycle and overseeing three laboratories. Her reputation for decisive leadership and effective team management has earned her the nickname “the Closer,” a reflection of her consistent ability to deliver results and resolve complex challenges in a demanding clinical environment. 

Ms. Ewell’s educational background has been central to her professional success. She earned a Master of Business Administration with distinction from Long Island University and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Iona University. These academic accomplishments provided her with the analytical tools and strategic insight necessary to navigate the complexities of health care operations. In addition, she is a certified professional coder through the American Association of Professional Coders, a credential that underscores her expertise in health care finance and compliance. 

Ms. Ewell’s professional journey began at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, where she worked as an account representative, gaining hands-on experience in hospital billing systems and patient accounts. She continued building her foundation at St. John’s Riverside Hospital as an accounts supervisor and later worked as an admitting registrar per diem at New York United Hospital Medical Center. These early roles offered Ms. Ewell valuable exposure to front-line operations, setting the stage for her transition into leadership. 

Before joining Weill Cornell Medicine, Ms. Ewell held positions of increasing responsibility at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Columbia University. As a manager at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, she refined her understanding of departmental workflows and staff development. Her time as revenue manager at Columbia University allowed her to focus on strategic planning and financial performance, developing a data-driven approach that would define her leadership style in subsequent roles. 

In addition to her work in health care administration, Ms. Ewell has contributed to higher education as an adjunct professor at the College of New Rochelle, now Mercy College. Her time in the classroom reflected a long-standing commitment to mentorship and community empowerment. She has consistently sought opportunities to uplift others by sharing her knowledge and professional insights with students and emerging leaders. 

Ms. Ewell’s personal story is one of resilience. As a teenage mother and immigrant from Jamaica, she faced significant obstacles early in life. Rather than allowing these challenges to define her, she used them as motivation to pursue her goals with urgency and discipline. Her journey is marked by a relentless drive to succeed and a passion for helping others do the same. 

Outside of her professional achievements, Ms. Ewell volunteers regularly, having completed more than 50 hours of community service in support of local initiatives. Her sense of purpose extends beyond the workplace, where she brings the same energy and focus to personal wellness and civic engagement. She plans to pursue a doctorate, affirming her belief in lifelong learning and the power of education to transform lives. Her story continues to inspire those who encounter it, serving as a testament to what is possible when courage, determination and vision come together in pursuit of excellence.
