As purchasing manager at Morgan Lee, she leads a team focused on contract negotiation, cost containment, field management and sourcing strategy. Her expertise spans steel purchasing and manufacturing, food services and industrial materials, allowing her to navigate complex procurement challenges with clarity and confidence. Working closely with departments such as sales, operations and accounting, she fosters streamlined systems that improve outcomes across the organization. 

Dr. Paynes’ academic achievements have served as a cornerstone of her professional success. She earned a Doctor of Business Management from the University of Phoenix, a milestone that solidified her commitment to leadership and growth. She also holds a Master of Business Administration from the same institution and a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Chicago State University. These degrees reflect her passion for business strategy and have equipped her with the analytical tools needed to lead in a competitive industry. Her pursuit of higher education, despite early skepticism from others, has been a defining factor in her development as a leader. 

Before joining Morgan Lee, Dr. Paynes held the role of purchasing manager at Val-Matic Valve & Mfg. Corporation. In this position, she refined her expertise in procurement operations, supply chain strategy and vendor relations. Her tenure there was preceded by an impactful period at US Foods Inc., where she advanced from buyer to senior buyer. These roles deepened her understanding of procurement in the food service sector and sharpened her ability to adapt to industry-specific demands. Earlier at US Foods, she was a sales coordinator, building valuable relationships with clients and internal teams while gaining practical experience in sales planning and process management. 

Prior to entering the food service industry, Dr. Paynes worked briefly as a contract recruiter for Global Employment Solutions in Chicago and as a recruitment specialist at Westwood College in Calumet City. These roles expanded her interpersonal and organizational skills, preparing her for future responsibilities in vendor negotiations and team leadership. Her early career began at Governors State University as an OSS, followed by a sales consultant position at Reinhart Foodservice. Each step in her career reflects a steady progression toward greater responsibility and influence. 

Dr. Paynes remains active beyond the workplace through her involvement in causes that reflect her values. She is a donor to the Alzheimer’s Association and the American Cancer Society, demonstrating a commitment to advancing health and community well-being. Her contributions to these organizations highlight her belief in the importance of service both professionally and personally. 

Looking ahead, Dr. Paynes aspires to attain a directorial role where she can mentor emerging professionals and drive strategic initiatives on a larger scale. She also envisions launching a consulting firm to provide leadership and procurement guidance to other organizations.
