ROSA M. SCOTT

Teaching isn’t work to Rosa Scott, it’s a passion. She was inspired to enter the field by her brother, and is now excelling as a teacher in the after-school program at Montauk School and as a substitute teacher in Lexington, Va., schools. She has also held roles like substitute teacher at East Hampton School and Springs School, and lead teacher of the Suffolk Community College Child Care Center, the East Hampton Day Care, and the after-school program at Springs School. Prior to entering the field, Ms. Scott served as a cashier and clerk for Brook’s Pharmacy, secretary of Frank Hanna’s Cleaning Company, and cosmetologist for Rosa’s Beauty Shop. She garnered further experience as a secretary of the Lylburn Downing Community Center, Inc., and as an arts and crafts tutor and supervisor of the East Hampton Town Youth After-School Program.

One of the highlights of Ms. Scott’s journey was having two paintings featured in the movie, “The Enchanted Cottage,” which was filmed in New York and completed in 2016. She was also proud to receive an honorable mention from the Guild Hall in East Hampton, N.Y., in 2014, and to be included in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.

When Ms. Scott has free time, she enjoys art, reading, theater, and tennis. She also likes to be active in her community. She is currently a board member and president of the East Hampton Artist Alliance and the president and receptionist of the Montauk Artists Association. In the past, she has been a co-chair of the East Hampton Town Anti-Bias Task Force, the vice president and president of the Long Island Black Artist Association, the president of the Rockbridge Garden Club, a co-organizer of the Virginia Cooperative Extension of Garden Clubs, a board member of Rockbridge Area President Homes, and a member of Fine Arts In Rockbridge and the Friends of Lime Kiln Society.

To enhance her professional knowledge, Ms. Scott earned an Associate of Arts from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in 1989 and a Bachelor of Arts from Mary Baldwin University in 1992.
