Providing services in elder law, probate and estates, Rebecca L. Shandrick has been the sole attorney in her private practice since 1989. She loves the independence and freedom her position gives her, as she is able to make decisions on her own terms. Her primary focus at the Law Offices of Rebecca L. Shandrick is helping people work through issues like Medicaid appeals, spousal impoverishment, trust administration, special needs planning, and guardianship, among many others. Ms. Shandrick feels that the best part of the job is connecting with clients and easing their concerns over their family problems. Her compassionate nature and decades of experience allow her to quickly come up with viable and efficient solutions.
Besides opening her own firm, Ms. Shandrick’s path led her to be the assistant city attorney for the City of Aurora in Colorado from 1985 to 1987 and an instructor of estate administration for paralegals at Kaplan College from 2001 to 2002. She has also authored several chapters of “Colorado Elder Law,” was the articles editor for the University of Colorado Law Review, and has lectured on numerous topics in the field. Most recently, she presented at the National Business Institute on “Marshaling Assets,” “Protecting Assets While Qualifying for Medicaid,” and the “Fundamentals of Elder Law.”
Ms. Shandrick prepared for her career by earning a JD from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1987 and a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Colorado in 1982. She also joined prominent professional organizations like the Academy of Special Needs Planners, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Colorado Bar Association. Further, since elder law was not a field when Ms. Shandrick began, she has taken many continuing education classes.
In Ms. Shandrick’s spare time, she enjoys cooking, particularly ethnic foods, rescuing animals, painting, and piano. She also likes to be active in her community; she was the president of the Augustana Foundation at the Augustana Lutheran Church from 2008 to 2011, and is a member of Denver Senior Coalitions and the Northwest Denver Council for Seniors.
