For Ms. Murphy, being consistently accessible to her clients is crucial, ensuring she is available 24/7 to offer support. She believes that her achievements have been the result of her determination, commitment, ability to take risks, and belief in the profound impact of making others feel cared for and valued. Her holistic approach to mental health integrates her background as a registered nurse and licensed therapist.
Sharing her expertise with aspiring professionals, Ms. Murphy was a respected adjunct professor at Wilmington University from 2000 to 2011. Moreover, as a professional development trainer and licensed professional counselor of mental health, she holds memberships in professional organizations, including the American Counseling Association, American Nurses Association, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Ms. Murphy is a past national president of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc., having served as national president from 2013 to 2021. She also was executive director of the Delaware Professional Counseling Association in 2012. In preparation for her career, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Widener University in 1989. Following this achievement, Ms. Murphy graduated from Wilmington University with a Master of Education and a Master of Science in clinical counseling.
Alongside her primary roles, Ms. Murphy remains active in her community. She has contributed her time as a volunteer with St. Jude Church, local food banks, and community education initiatives. In addition, she has provided mental health training to local organizations. Ms. Murphy’s commitment to service has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Robert Wood Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award, the Dedication Service Award from the Quality Screening Service, and the St. Jude Award. The Robert Wood Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes Ms. Murphy’s engagement with socioeconomically struggling communities, where she spent time educating citizens about asthma and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
Within the next decade, Ms. Murphy is committed to becoming an influential international speaker, advocating for mental health awareness. She aims to positively transform lives and has already conducted nationwide training sessions, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. She envisions speaking on larger platforms and finalizing her book, which focuses on overcoming pain and empowering women through therapy. Ms. Murphy encourages organizations to implement mental health policies, such as scheduling mental health days for employees and restricting after-hours emails. Her long-term goal is to ensure every organization prioritizes mental health in the workplace.
