Phoebe Del Boccio, MSc, PhD, is a senior project manager with the Tissue Pathology Cohort at New York University (NYU) Langone Health. She began working for the organization in 2021 when it became clear that the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic demanded a massive mobilization of scientific resources to understand the disease and find solutions to mitigate its impacts.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) created a funding opportunity, offering more than $1 billion in grants, which NYU secured. Dr. Del Boccio became the administrative head of the program, which has sites at major universities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Among the numerous research areas, Dr. Boccio is in charge of the autopsy cohort, named the tissue pathology cohort. She is proud of her work developing solutions and helping to mitigate COVID-19 and its effects, including the serious health repercussions of long COVID. In her role, she oversees research operations across all sites enrolled in the cohort, manages her team, and produces reports for the NIH.
Adjacent to her primary position, Dr. Del Boccio contributes to medical textbooks and articles published in professional medical journals. She is board-certified in nephrology technology through the Board of Nephrology Education for Nurses and Technologists and keeps abreast of developments in her field as a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, the American College of Clinical Pathology, and the American Medical Writers Association. Dr. Del Boccio prepared for her career at Kean University, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and computer science in 2008. She continued her higher education at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, earning a Master of Science in technical communications, summa cum laude, in 2010, before matriculating at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. In 2018, she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in urban systems with a concentration in health.
Dr. Del Boccio is an ambitious medical professional who has committed to ongoing study and professional development through 2026. She enjoys academic writing and plans to collaborate with professionals and researchers in her field. In addition, Dr. Del Boccio looks forward to becoming a mentor for young scientists and physicians. Devoted, she describes herself as a workhorse who is active behind the scenes contributing to progress through research.
