Who's Who of Professional Women

Outraged by the lack of empathy and care in the education of bilingual children, Linda B. Lewis White decided to take matters into her own hands. She became a certified bilingual and elementary teacher in the state of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in home economics and a Master of Arts in social sciences from California State University, and jumped right into the field. Dr. Lewis White proceeded to serve as a bilingual teacher in the Arlington School District from 1977 to 1996 and then as a professor of reading at Eastern Michigan University. She continues to work in the latter to this day. Her responsibilities include teaching undergraduate students to become educators and teaching graduate students seeking a reading specialist degree.

To enhance her professional standing, Dr. Lewis White completed postgraduate coursework at Texas Women’s University and earned a PhD in reading from East Texas State University. She also garnered experience as part of a teacher training cadre in the Dallas Independent School District, as a presenter at a Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages International Conference, as an adjunct professor at Texas Women’s University and East Texas State University, and as a consultant and author of “Ciencias-Silver Burdett.” Additionally, Dr. Lewis White became a member of organizations like the National Reading Conference, the National Writing Project, the International Literacy Association, Phi Delta Kappa, and Phi Mu.

As a testament to her hard work and dedication, Dr. Lewis White was honored to receive the Ronald W. Collins Provost Distinguished Faculty Award from Eastern Michigan University in 2007. The fact that the award was the result of nominations from her students and colleagues made it all the more special. Dr. Lewis White was also proud to be included in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.

When Dr. Lewis White isn’t working, she enjoys sewing, knitting, quilting, reading, and gourmet cooking.
