Lauren Nilssen

Well-versed in taxes, quality education and event planning, Lauren B. Nilssen is a distinguished leader in her field with more than 20 years of professional experience. Since 2022, she has been deputy executive director of the National Society of Accountants, where she focuses her attention on handling staff meetings, attending board and executive committee meetings, and ensuring that company operations are running effectively. In this regard, Ms. Nilssen also maintains responsibility for banking, audits, tax returns, compliance, and strategic planning. She is in the process of writing an operation manual for the organization.

Adjacent to her primary appointment, Ms. Nilssen has lent her expertise to the National Society of Accountants as the director of education since 2021. Furthermore, she has served as a senior consultant at her firm, LBN Consulting Services, since 2000. Earlier in her career, Ms. Nilssen was a program associate with the Council on Foreign Relations in 1989 and a senior technical editor for KPMG LLP in 1999. From 2003 to 2018, she worked in meetings and communications for the Institute of Makers of Explosives, having previously shared her wealth of knowledge with the Council for a Livable World in Washington, D.C., for many years. Likewise, Ms. Nilssen was the associate director of education strategy for the National Association of Enrolled Agents for two years.

To remain abreast of developments in her areas of interest, Ms. Nilssen is an active member of several other organizations. To wit, she maintains affiliations with the Professional Convention Management Association, the National Association of Tax Professionals, the National Society of Tax Professionals, and the American Society of Association Executives. She is a certified meeting professional fellow of the Events Industry Council, a certified meetings manager with Meeting Professionals International, and a certified meeting planner with the Convention Industry Council. Moreover, Ms. Nilssen is honored as a certified association executive with the American Society of Association Executives and attained a global certification in meeting management from Meeting Professionals International. Previously, Ms. Nilssen received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of New Hampshire. She subsequently studied journalism at Moscow State University and earned a Master of Arts in international affairs, focusing on Russia and Central Eurasia, from American University.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Nilssen aims to continue educating others on taxes and association management, with a particular focus on improving the integrity of nonprofit organizations. Although she has reached many significant career milestones, she is especially proud of planning a many successful events. In this regard, Ms. Nilssen will work to cultivate the knowledge of the next generation of industry leaders.
