Sabeen A. Ahmed

Marking a tenure of nearly 20 years with The Interface Financial Group, Sabeen A. Ahmed is celebrated for her adaptability, work ethic and willingness to learn and grow. She initially joined the company in 2008 as an accountant and was quickly confronted with unexpected challenges when the organization’s chief financial officer departed. Tasked with performing duties outside her initial role, Ms. Ahmed gracefully navigated a period of intense pressure and scrutiny, resulting in recognition from The Interface Financial Group’s chief executive officer. She shifted from accounting to credit management and was ultimately promoted to chief credit officer — a pivotal move that set the stage for her future contributions.

In 2013, Ms. Ahmed played a key role in guiding The Interface Financial Group through a significant transformation, pivoting its core business from invoice financing to supply chain financing. She spearheaded instrumental efforts to develop a digital process that would be more responsive to emerging issues in the industry. As she has aided the company’s sustained growth and innovation, Ms. Ahmed has built her reputation as an expert in commercial credit and underwriting. Reflecting her commitment to excellence and continuous learning, she regards herself as a leading credit expert not only in the United States but globally, citing her advanced knowledge as one of her most notable achievements.

Prior to her time with The Interface Financial Group, Ms. Ahmed laid a strong foundation in finance while working for five years at several major Canadian financial institutions. These early professional opportunities included service at the Royal Bank of Canada, TD Bank, Scotiabank and a credit union. During this period, she advanced through positions focused on credit and underwriting, gaining practical experience that would inform her future leadership in commercial finance.

Ms. Ahmed’s performance in the field was born of her academic journey. Born in Canada, she obtained a chartered management accounting degree from McGill University in her hometown of Montreal, Quebec, in 2004. Subsequently, Ms. Ahmed earned a master’s degree in finance from The George Washington University in 2010. These educational accomplishments provided her with a robust theoretical framework and analytical skills essential for navigating complex financial environments.

Looking back on her career thus far, Ms. Ahmed attributes much of her success to her dedication to learning about credit and commercial finance. She also notes the mentorship she received from George Shapiro, the chairman of The Interface Financial Group. His guidance has been central to her continued professional development, alongside her passion for reading and attendance at seminars on finance.

Beyond her primary vocation, Ms. Ahmed has demonstrated a commitment to civic engagement and meaningful community involvement. She volunteers with such organizations as Islamic Relief USA, the Domestic Violence Against Women Association and Homes Not Borders.

Throughout her career, Ms. Ahmed has received numerous accolades recognizing her achievements. Among her most noteworthy honors, she has been commended with the Canadian Lenders Award for Commercial Underwriting and the Canadian Mortgage Award for Most Closings in a Year. Additionally, she has earned various awards at conferences held by The Interface Financial Group.

Outside of her professional life, Ms. Ahmed has been a devoted wife to her spouse, Azer Akhtar, since 2007. She is a loving mother to one daughter and twin sons. Her favorite pastimes include reading murder mysteries, watching science fiction films, traveling and trying new restaurants — especially for dessert.

Moving forward, Ms. Ahmed aspires to scale The Interface Financial Group to new heights by addressing barriers that limit the expansion of supply chain finance. She is committed to democratizing access within the industry by providing solutions that do not require buyer guarantees or investment-grade-classified businesses. Through these efforts, Ms. Ahmed aims to make supply chain financing more available to a broader range of companies worldwide.
