Kory Ward-Cook

With decades of experience in leadership, education, and wellness consulting, Kory M. Ward-Cook, PhD, has built a distinguished career that bridges the fields of clinical science and holistic health. As the founder of Dovetail Coaching, she merges her expertise in pathology, laboratory science, and executive management with her passion for integrative wellness. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in pathology, a Master of Science in clinical laboratory science, and a Bachelor of Arts in medical technology. Dr. Ward-Cook is also certified as a clinical laboratory scientist and an integrative nutrition health coach, with a certified association executive credential from the Center for Association Leadership, enhancing her skills in leadership and health coaching.

Dr. Ward-Cook launched Dovetail Coaching in 2020, offering wellness coaching, education, and consultation. Before that, she served as chief executive officer of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She was instrumental in advancing the recognition of acupuncture as an independent profession within the federal government, working to gather essential data for its recognition alongside chiropractic care. This achievement allowed insurance companies to explore broader coverage for functional health and wellness treatments.

Dr. Ward-Cook’s academic journey included 14 years at Ohio State University as an associate professor in pathology and allied medical professions. Throughout her career, Dr. Ward-Cook has collaborated with numerous organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology, as executive director and senior vice president. Her commitment to service is evident in her civic contributions. She served as president of the Healer Within Foundation from 2021 to 2023, following various leadership roles within the organization. Her volunteer work includes contributions to the League of Women Voters, Mercy Medical Center, and the Junior Service League of Independence.

As an award-winning professional, Dr. Ward-Cook is a three-time recipient of the Collaborative Research Award and received the Excellence Award from the Ohio Board of Regents for her contributions to allied health research. She also holds a lifetime achievement award from two non-profit organizations focused on Asian medicine. In her spare time, Dr. Ward-Cook enjoys practicing yoga, tai chi, and other movement routines. She finds balance through her connection with a group of women with whom she exchanges ideas. She also enjoys reading, writing, and gardening.

Looking to the future, Dr. Ward-Cook plans to continue focusing on her well-being while inspiring others to live joyful, balanced lives. She is currently writing a book titled “Cultivating the Leader Within You on Your Personal Health and Wellness,” which is expected to be published within the next year. After retirement, she intends to offer her expertise to support individuals and organizations in their efforts to promote holistic wellness, staying dedicated to her mission of helping others achieve optimal health in mind, body, and spirit.
