JEANNETTE L. RINCON

Lt. Jeannette L. Rincon has earned distinction as a Communications Command Operations Department head and lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard. Eminently qualified in her field, she is also a contracting officer and project manager for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Having scored highly on her test to join the Coast Guard, Lt. Rincon initially enlisted at the age of 17 and served within the armed forces for more than a decade, during which she received an Associate of Arts in technology with specialization in electromechanical instrumentation from Excelsior College.

While coming of age, Lt. Rincon drew a wealth of inspiration from her mother, who worked hard as a single mother of two children. Though her school did not offer extracurricular activities, the younger woman still managed to excel in school, which earned her praise from her teachers. Though she wished to attend college, her mother could not afford to send her and thus Lt. Rincon realized that she would have to take matters into her own hands. She began researching different military branches in order to attend college at an affordable price, and chose to enter the Coast Guard because they offered positions for both men and women.

In her current position, Lt. Rincon works with high caliber radar machine guns to transmit and receive in tower communication systems. She has also gained special expertise in process development and engineering. Additionally, she excels as a guest instructor and an adjunct faculty member at Joint Forces Staff College. In her local community, Lt. Rincon serves as a mentor with Partnership in Education, as assistant director of Seven Cities Salsa, Inc., and as a Girl Scout leader. Well regarded for her contributions to the field, she was notably named as among the YWCA Women of Distinction. She feels that her drive ability to take initiative, ambition, passion and compassion have played a fundamental role in her success. Over the course of her career, she has benefited the most by remaining adaptable and flexible in most professional situations.

In light of her many accomplishments, Lt. Rincon has been the recipient of numerous honors and accolades including the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, the District Five Outstanding Victim Advocacy Award and the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation with a Gold Star, among others. In a career suffused with highlights, she has been most proud to remain in the Coast Guard for as long as she has. She is also grateful to have learned new things throughout her professional journey. Outside of her professional endeavors, she enjoys dancing, crafting and building in her spare time. Looking toward the future, Lt. Rincon plans to continue excelling in her career and work toward completing a master’s degree program. She would also like to give back to her community and open a business.
