Jannette L. Gray, a pioneering figure in the field of nursing, decided to enter the field of health care in light of her passion for easing pain and helping individuals improve their health. Since 2000, she has thrived as a clinical effectiveness consultant III for the Sutter Bay Medical Foundation. As a health care executive, Ms. Gray maintains responsibility for overseeing seven different surgery centers as well as working in collaboration with the leadership teams at the Ambulatory Surgery Center to ensure all charting and patient documentation are accurate. Ms. Gray also reviews patient safety reports and works alongside the California Department of Public Health, among other organizations, to obtain licensure and maintain regulatory standards.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Gray served as a clinical manager at the PAMF Surgery Center in San Carlos, California, between 2015 and 2020. She also served as an infection preventionist and gastrointestinal charge nurse at the PAMF Surgery Center between 2014 and 2015, as well as a registered nurse for the Sexual Assault Response Team at the San Mateo Medical Center in California from 2007 to 2015. Likewise, Ms. Gray was a gastrointestinal charge nurse and a staff nurse at the PAMF Surgery Center in Palo Alto, California, between 2008 and 2014. Previously, she served as a perioperative nurse at the San Mateo Medical Center from 2007 to 2008, an endoscopy travel nurse for the Cross Country Travel Corps from 2006 to 2008, and an endoscopy nurse at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial from 2004 to 2005. She began her career as an emergency room nurse at Spectrum Health Lakeland’s Level III Trauma Center in 2002, remaining for one year.
Prior to embarking on her career, Ms. Gray attended Andrews University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2002. She also possesses credentials as a certified sexual assault nurse examiner and is certified in advanced cardiac life support and basic life support. In 2008, Ms. Gray also received a forensic nursing certificate.
While serving in the health care industry, Ms. Gray has received much recognition for her revolutionary work, including her contributions to error prevention tools training on a state and federal level. In this regard, she helped in the development of an instructive class for physicians, staff, and the leadership team to improve safety standards and standardize company procedures. In the coming years, Ms. Gray hopes to be promoted to manager or director of quality as the Sutter Bay Medical Foundation continues to establish new surgery centers.
As such, to keep up with developments in the fields of nursing and health care, Ms. Gray maintains an active affiliation with numerous organizations. She is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, the National Association for Healthcare Quality, and the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses.
Ms. Gray credits her success to the wonderful mentorship she has received from leaders and other executives in the industry, all of whom have positively influenced her work life. She is also grateful for the support and encouragement of her family and friends. To commemorate her accomplishments, Ms. Gray has been honored on various occasions, receiving the Outstanding Service Award from the Sutter Bay Medical Foundation in 2019 and the Black, Indigenous and People of Color Perioperative Leader to Know Award from Whitman Partners in 2022. Notably, the Surgery Center of San Carlos also earned many accolades under her profound leadership, having accepted the Women’s Health Choice Award in 2019, two American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit of Recognition Awards and two CASA Awards of Excellence, among others.
Ms. Gray emphasizes that her own success reflects upon the perseverance and dedication of her team, and she wholeheartedly believes that it is integral to empower others to continue moving forward to greatness. Above all else, she values collaboration and cultivating working relationships, providing patients and clients with professionalism and authenticity. In her leisure time, Ms. Gray enjoys reading, building furniture, playing and building electric guitars, exercising, coaching and sports.
