Encouraged by her mother, Bertha Casey, to pursue a career that she loved, Jane Lynne Patton was drawn to the field of art education from an early age. First graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Point Loma Nazarene University in California, she served as a high school art teacher in San Diego, California, for a number of years and obtained Master of Arts from San Diego State University in 1975. Following this she moved to Texas, and was notably honored for excellence in art education with a feature in the limited first edition print of “Notable Women of Texas (1984-1985).” She retired in 2005, having served as an associate professor of art education at Texas Christian University since 2001.
Despite her retirement, Ms. Patton has continued to involve herself in the field of education and is presently active as an English teacher in Taiwan. Alongside her professional responsibilities, she has also been an avid volunteer in her church. She is currently a leader with Stephens Ministries and has donated considerable volunteer work with the women’s club. Having accomplished much over the course of her career, both professionally and civically, Ms. Patton attributes much of her success to God.
Above everything, Ms. Patton considers her crowning achievement to be her marriage of 64 years to her late husband, Farrel L. Patton, who passed in 2013. They met in high school during the early years of the Korean War. When Mr. Patton joined the Air Force and was stationed in New England, she flew to Boston to join him and they were married in the church of a family friend. They were the proud parents of one daughter, Gail Marie. Mr. Patton was the love of her life and, while she misses him dearly, Ms. Patton feels very pleased that they were able to share such a happy and productive life together.
