Who's Who of Professional Women

JANE WILLIAMS FLEMING

A lifelong learner with a passion for working with others, Jane Williams Fleming thrived as a teacher. She started her journey by earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1951, after which she immediately joined the staff of the San Diego Unified School District. Ms. Fleming proceeded to serve the Costa Mesa School District from 1955 until 1956, and the Long Beach Unified School District from 1956 until her retirement in 1987. She returned to teaching part time between 1990 and 1992, after two years of absence left her missing the field.

Throughout the years, Ms. Fleming made a strong effort to remain connected with her peers and to continuously further her understanding of education. She obtained a Master of Arts from California State University, Long Beach, in 1969, and is currently a student at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, where she has studied since 2013. Additionally, Ms. Fleming has maintained affiliation with prominent organizations like Phi Kappa Phi, the Retired Teachers Association, the University of California, Los Angeles, Alumni Association, the Red Hat Society, and the Museum of Tolerance. She is a charter member of the Planetary Society.

With such an impressive background, it is only natural that Ms. Fleming decided to share her knowledge outside the classroom as well. She was a speaker at the board of education, and a contributor of articles to newspapers and short stories to magazines. Further, Ms. Fleming authored, “Why Janey Can’t Teach,” in 2001, although it still has yet to be published.

As a testament to her hard work and dedication, Ms. Fleming was featured in 18 volumes of both Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in America between 1998 and 2016. She has also been included in numerous editions of Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West, and Who’s Who of American Women. When she has spare time, she enjoys theater and travel, as well as spending time with her children, Rhett, Santee, and Timothy, as well as her three daughter-in-laws and three grandsons.
