Doreen L. Dann, RN, BSN, MHA, has long distinguished herself in the fields of nursing and health care administration. Today, she thrives as the owner and independent health insurance agent at DLD Healthcare Consulting & Insurance in Brea, California. Her extensive education includes a master’s degree in health, health care administration, and management from Chapman University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University, and completed coursework in business and statistics at Elmhurst University.
Ms. Dann’s professional contributions have been recognized with numerous awards resulting in her exceptional expertise, which encompasses health insurance, small group insurance, management administration, health care administration, commercial insurance, and executive leadership in acute care hospitals. She has always been guided by a commitment to individual care, operational efficiency, and service excellence. Ms. Dann’s career spans decades, marked by significant leadership roles in various health care settings. She began her journey in 1971 when she earned her registered nurse certification. She later held executive leadership positions in acute care hospitals from 1987 to 2015, starting at the St. Jude Medical Center, rising from nurse manager to clinical director for various departments and eventually becoming the chief nursing officer. Her tenure at St. Jude Medical Center, now known as Providence St. Jude Medical Center, lasted nearly 30 years. In her final decade there, she was promoted to chief operating officer as an unmistakable testament to her leadership and vision.
Following her tenure at St. Jude, Ms. Dann took on roles as chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at multiple hospitals, including Victor Valley Community Hospital, Chino Valley Medical Center, and Desert Valley Hospital. She concluded her hospital career as the chief nursing officer at Corona Regional Medical Center in 2015. Highly respected, Ms. Dann has been applauded for her innovative approach to patient care, particularly through the creation of a pioneering patient care technician role, which enhanced clinical support in hospitals.
After her retirement from hospital administration, Ms. Dann identified a pressing need among seniors navigating the complexities of Medicare and Social Security. In response, she transitioned to the insurance industry, obtaining her health and life insurance agent license in California and 11 other states in 2018. At her self-initialed company, DLD Healthcare Consulting & Insurance, her focus is on helping seniors find the best health plan options and navigate the often-confusing landscape of Medicare. She is affiliated with a marketing organization that enables her to contract with various health care carriers.
Ms. Dann’s commitment to patient-centered care extends beyond her professional achievements. She is an active member of her community involved in civic activities, supporting and serving on the board of THE Breast Cancer, and is a past board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park, California. Peering forward, she aims to continue working with seniors, providing her consultancy services at no cost or obligation.
