After graduating from Manheim Central High School in 2003, Bobbi Nicole Bentzel matriculated at the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute. She first achieved her cosmetology license in 2004, which was followed by certifications as a color specialist, a hot head hair extension specialist and an instructor by 2013. Throughout this time, she also underwent a considerable amount of on-the-job training, including in hair-coloring, highlighting, cutting, blow-drying and wigs. Furthermore, she completed studies in teaching for different learning styles, culture and leadership through Aveda Business College in 2013 and spent 2014 to 2015 continuing to improve her hair styling skills and adding skills in makeup to her repertoire.
In 2013, Ms. Bentzel established Glamour Room, LLC, an Aveda salon and spa, where she continues to excel as the salon’s owner. In addition to her seeing clients, she is also responsible for handling bookings, payroll, orders and advertising. Alongside her work at Glamour Room, she is an educator, brand ambassador and influencer and offers her expertise to weddings, commercials, print work, beauty pageants and more. She works with several photographers for a modeling agency and visits other salons and spas to educate them about new products and techniques for hair coloring. In 2015, Ms. Bentzel became certified as a Make-Up Designory educator and achieved the positions of makeup specialist and director of education at the Schwarzkopf Beauty Institute in Philadelphia.
Between 2013 and 2015, Ms. Bentzel brought her expertise to several different roles, including as a cosmetology educator with the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute from 2013 to 2014, an educator with Paul Mitchell from 2014 to 2015 and a hair and makeup artist with the Donatelli Modeling Agency from 2013 to 2015. It was while she was working as a hair and makeup artist for on-air talent and photoshoots with QVC from 2015 to 2016 that she got her first exposure to doing work with freelance photographers, and she credits this experience with helping to advance her skills and a driving force behind her ever-growing success in the field. Ms. Bentzel is also active in her community and contributes to both Cut-A-Thon and Locks of Love, as well as raising money for charity by doing community fashion shows.
Having accomplished much over the course of her career, Ms. Bentzel considers her greatest achievement to be the work she has done for New York Fashion Week as a hair and makeup artist. She has participated on a number of occasions now and has had the opportunity to work with Michael Kors three times. Not letting the COVID-19 pandemic slow her down, this period has seen her doing work with Vogue, the Golden Globes and various fashion shows for both New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week. She is also particularly proud of getting the opportunity to work with Betsey Johnson and Nicole Miller. As she looks toward the future, Ms. Bentzel hopes to continue to collaborate with her fellow designers and the many well-known and respected names in the industry.
Always striving to expand her skills, Ms. Bentzel stands out in the field of cosmetology for her tireless drive and dedication to continued education. She hopes to leave a legacy as a good person with a good heart who always did her best. Recognized early on for her excellence, she graduated with honors from the teaching program at Avena Business College and was featured among the Top 100 at the Paul Mitchell Gala in 2015. Her work at the Schwarzkopf Beauty Institute has also seen her presented with the Royale Masterclass Award and Glamour Room, LLC, has been named “Best Of” in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Ms. Bentzel has been married to her husband, Richard Mendez, the first Puerto Rican chief of police in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for many happy years. Together they are the proud parents of two children, a son, age 10, and a daughter, age 4. When she is not working, Ms. Bentzel enjoys traveling, spending time with her children and gaining new life experiences as a mother.
