Who's Who of Professional Women

BARBARA L. LOBRON

In pursuit of her passions, Barbara L. Lobron dedicated much of her life to her career. She started as a reporter and writer for the Camden Courier-Post right out of college, and really fell in love with the industry. Ms. Lobron worked hard to solidify her place after that. Her efforts led to her advancement through roles like editorial assistant of Medical Insight Magazine, managing editor of Camera 35 Magazine, associate editor for U.S. Camera/Camera 35 Magazine Annual, account executive for Bozell & Jacobs, and freelance editor for Word Woman, as well as to her growing interest in photography. Ms. Lobron’s next positions, copy editor of Camera Arts Magazine, editorial coordinator of Popular Photography Magazine, and associate editor of Sony Style, all related to the subject. Then, due to her involvement with Soka Gakki International (SGI), a humanistic organization based on the practice of Nichiren Buddhism, she became a teacher of speech improvement for the New York City Board of Education. She remained there from 1995 until her retirement in 2014. Notably, she was the first female participant of the 3M Editors Conference.

To prepare for her endeavors, Ms. Lobron obtained a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Temple University in 1966 and a Master of Science from the College of Mount St. Vincent in 2001. She also completed coursework at The Pennsylvania State University and in art therapy with Erika Steinberger and made connections by becoming more active in her community. As a part of Family of Women, she strives to lead, inspire, and mentor women to embrace their power, purpose, and value.

Outside of work, Ms. Lobron’s hobbies included reading, photography, art, choral singing, origami, walking, and dancing. She exhibited many of her paintings and pictures at exhibitions at venues like the Warwick Hotel, Rockefeller Center, the Photography Gallery, the International Women’s Art Festival, and Teacher’s College, all in New York City. Additionally, she completed independent editing projects for publications like “The Complete Guide to Cibachrome Printing,” “The Popular Photography Question and Answer Book,” “Strand: Sixty Years of Photography,” and “You and Your Lens.”
