A pediatrician with over 30 years of professional experience, Lynette S. Jattan-Cunningham, MD, FAAP, first developed her natural ability to nurture and care for children as the second child of nine, who was consistently tasked with watching her younger siblings. Initially considering becoming a teacher, she was greatly impacted by her experience falling ill from tetanus when she was 17. Becoming so sick that she needed to relearn how to walk, she gained a new appreciation for good health care, which led to her determination to do her best as a pediatrician. Enrolling at Concordia University in Montreal to study medical sciences, because those were the courses of study that were open at the time, she graduated with Bachelor of Science in biochemistry with a minor in pharmacology in 1977.

Dr. Jattan-Cunningham went on to obtain a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1982; completed an internship at the Port of Spain General Hospital in Trinidad in 1983; and attained a diploma in dermatology from the University of London in 1987. Deciding to pursue pediatrics as a specialty, she served as a resident in pediatrics at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, from 1993 to 1995. In 1995, she embarked on her career as a pediatrician and partner with Conyers Pediatrics in Georgia, where she remains to this day. Looking toward the future, Dr. Jattan-Cunningham intends to continue practicing pediatric medicine while beginning to plan for retirement, during which she hopes to increase her involvement in medical mission trips.

For her excellence, Dr. Jattan-Cunningham has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades. In 1995, she was notably elected as a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and, in 2002, was named a Stellar Physician by Rockdale Medical Center. Furthermore, she has also been the recipient of multiple Reader’s Choice Awards. Above these accolades, Dr. Jattan-Cunningham considers the most gratifying part of her work to be her ability to connect with her patients and their families through helping them to understand the complexities of medicine, teaching and nurturing healthy habits, and sharing love and compassion.
