Respected in the field of family law, Susan M. Hais has thrived as a founding partner of Hais, Hais, & Goldberger. She started the firm in 2002 after spending more than two decades in private practice, and loves bringing people together to make a difference. Mrs. Hais has experienced a lot of triumphs over the years, particularly when, as a young lawyer, she got a reversal from the court of appeals from the bench, which is virtually unheard of. She has also gotten a lot of reversals from the court of appeals on cases, and one in the Supreme Court of Missouri. The thing that compels her most is when she is able to get a parent custody of a child, and they get to spend time with them.
When Mrs. Hais began her professional journey, she initially wanted to pursue English. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis in 1970 and a Master of Arts in English from Saint Louis University in 1971 before deciding she was more interested in law. This was an era when there weren’t too many female lawyers yet, so her progression into the field was very exciting to her. In 1974, Mrs. Hais obtained a JD in law from the School of Law at Saint Louis University and became admitted to the Missouri Bar, propelling her to reach her goals. Over the years, she has also become admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Federal Claims, and the United States Court of Appeals. She is also certified in mediation.
As a testament to her achievements, Mrs. Hais was recognized as the Highest Profile Attorney in St. Louis by Ladue News in 2012 and as the Most High Profile Divorce Attorney in St. Louis by Ladue News in 2009. She was also honored with the Women of Substance Award. She attributes her success to the fact that she likes people and listens to them; she fights hard for her clients. Additionally, she ensures she remains up to date with developments in her field through affiliation with the ABA and the Lawyers Association.
