Suzi Steiger

Spanning more than four decades in the travel industry, Suzi Steiger has distinguished herself through her tenure as the president of RMP Travel since 1984. She joined the company after being approached by Joseph Beinhorn, who founded the business in 1979 and was considering retirement. Ms. Steiner was employed at Sheraton at the time, but she accepted the opportunity to shift her energy to RMP Travel in March 1984. Her initial buyout of the business was completed in late 1986, and by mid-1990, she acquired her partner’s share and became the sole owner of the company.

Demonstrating resilience and adaptability throughout her tenure as president of RMP Travel, Ms. Steiger has led the company through challenging periods, including the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the 2008 financial crisis. Even during these difficult moments, she and her team focused on strengthening the company’s brand and building its reputation among international and local clients, turning slowdowns into opportunities for growth. Her active participation in trade shows and engagement with decision-makers has been instrumental in maintaining long-standing professional relationships.

RMP Travel has expanded as a New York-based ground operator for the Royal Caribbean Group, Princess Cruise Lines Ltd. and Holland America Line, while benefiting from affiliation with New York City Tourism + Conventions (formerly the New York Convention & Visitors Bureau), the National Tour Association, the American Bus Association, and the Ontario Motor Coach Association. The company has opened offices in London and Cologne, Germany, representing travel opportunities in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Ms. Steiger considers her role as a mentor to be her most significant career achievement. She has guided staff from diverse backgrounds who have gone on to hold senior positions at organizations across the United States and Europe. She continues to value these connections, viewing them as a testament to her commitment to professional development within the industry.

Beyond her responsibilities at RMP Travel, Ms. Steiger has contributed to the broader travel community through her involvement with industry organizations. She has previously served as treasurer and president of the board of the Receptive Services Association (now operating as the International Inbound Travel Association), reflecting her dedication to advancing standards within the sector. Ms. Steiger’s commitment to industry engagement is also evident through her active participation in New York’s travel sector. She attributes much of her success to this involvement and to her appreciation for collaboration with creative professionals who share common goals.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Steiger sought a strong education to support her future. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. This academic foundation has supported Ms. Steiger’s ability to understand client needs and foster effective working relationships throughout her career. She is also certified as a minority woman’s business owner, further establishing her credibility and leadership within the business community.

Well-regarded for her contributions to the field, Ms. Steiger has received a number of noteworthy accolades. These include a Recognition Certificate for Commercial Services in Export Business and further recognition from the Receptive Services Association. Ms. Steiger was featured in Inbound Insider Magazine, an annual publication associated with the International Inbound Travel Association. She was also invited to serve on the advisory board for the New York District Export Council. RMP Travel was presented with the first-ever Export Achievement Certificate from the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Commercial Service.

Extending her influence outside of organizational leadership, Ms. Steiger has published editorials and participated in projects that highlight her expertise in travel operations. Her writing has been featured in National Geographic UK and FORE Magazine, as well as through RMP Travel itself.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Ms. Steiger enjoys swimming, reading and, of course, traveling. While continuing to run RMP Travel, she hopes to pursue more writing projects in the years ahead. Ms. Steigers aims to share personal reflections on relationships and individual aspirations enhanced by her many years of experience within the travel industry. She has also considered writing fiction built around the same foundation of insight into human nature and the joy of exploring the world.
