Roslyn Jefferson is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSWR) with a robust career in psychotherapy. As a psychotherapist in the psychiatric outpatient faculty practice department at Albany Medical Health Systems in New York, she collaborates with a team of professionals to provide effective treatment plans while helping patients develop coping skills and understand family dynamics to enhance their overall well-being. Recognized for her professional excellence and “bringing care to the caregivers,” Ms. Jefferson was recently nominated to be one of The Top 100 Health Promotion Professionals in a WELOA Dish contest.
Before joining Albany Medical Health Systems, Ms. Jefferson was a psychotherapist at Pinnacle Behavioral Health, preceded by a significant role at Albany Medical Center, where she was both the employee assistance program coordinator and wellness coordinator. In these positions, Ms. Jefferson was responsible for the well-being of approximately 9,000 to 10,000 employees, connecting them with necessary community resources and expanding the wellness program. Notably, under her leadership, the annual wellness event grew from 200 to 800 attendees. Earlier in her career, Ms. Jefferson gained valuable experience as an employee assistance coordinator at the University at Albany – State University of New York.
Ms. Jefferson prepared for her career in social work at Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1978. After working at the Academic Peer Counseling Center during her undergraduate years, she developed a passion for counseling, leading her to pursue a Master of Social Work at Columbia University, which she completed in 1980. Her dedication to her community and profession has been recognized with several awards, including the Community Action Award and an honoree recognition during the 10th Ward African American History Month Celebration by the Albany Common Council in 2014.
A community-appointed member of the Albany Community Police Advisory Committee from 2014 to 2017, Ms. Jefferson has always sought to make positive local impacts. She dedicated time to the New York Council of Problem Gambling, in which she held various roles, including serving as chair. Further, she has contributed to the Pine Hills Neighborhood Association through an ad hoc committee and served as president and secretary of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association. Outside of work and volunteering, Ms. Jefferson enjoys making jewelry, practicing calligraphy, making soap, and gardening. She has a keen interest in essential oils and exploring their benefits.
Excited about the future, Ms. Jefferson plans to maintain a small practice, potentially specializing in couples counseling. She expects to continue her community involvement, particularly in city planning efforts following the closure of a local college. She also aspires to take jewelry-making classes and prioritize her physical health for a long, active life.
