Who's Who of Professional Women

A veteran of the education industry, Nancy Morris is known for her honesty, trustworthiness, and fairness. She spent 30 years teaching business at Berlin Central School in New York, and 11 years teaching business as an adjunct professor at Empire State College and Hudson Valley Community College. Although she retired in 2014, she remains active as a member of the New York State Business Education Teachers Association.

During her time at the high school, Ms. Morris also served as the coach of the junior varsity and varsity cheerleading squads, the junior varsity and varsity ladies soccer teams, and the varsity ladies softball team. One of the highlights of her career actually revolved around her athletic endeavors. Many years ago, a former student reached out to Ms. Morris to thank her for an exchange during cheerleading tryouts that stuck with her. Ms. Morris hadn’t thought much about the moment at the time, but was touched to know that her words had that much of an impact. Her biggest goal was always to foster greatness in her students.

To prepare for her journey, Ms. Morris earned an associate degree from Hudson Valley Community College, a Bachelor of Science from Rider College, and a New York State Teacher Certification. She attributes her success to two of her teachers, as well as her parents. Her high school accounting and typing teacher, Mrs. Orsini, was the first to suggest that Ms. Morris become a business educator, and her college professor, Mrs. Sullivan, encouraged her growth within the school and beyond. Their guidance never failed her, and she has never regretted her decision to enter the field.

Now in retirement, Ms. Morris is focusing on hobbies like travel, sports, history, and genealogy. She has traced her mother’s side of the family back to 1657 and her father’s back to the early 1700s, and has completed a number of presentations for the Halfmoon Historical Society. She is also the treasurer of the organization, as well as the president of Halfmoon Senior Citizens and the author of “The History of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church.”
