Having always loved teaching, Nancy E. Dewey would teach her stuffed animals as a young child. When she attended school, she realized just how important education was. Her first job was as a science laboratory technician, but when she got married, she figured that science lab work was not conducive to her children’s lifestyle. Therefore, she decided to go back to teaching and has been for 20 years. Ms. Dewey is most proud of the accomplishments and progress that her students have made throughout the years.
Ms. Dewey began her professional career as a sixth grade teacher within the Willcox Unified School District in Arizona in 2001, remaining in this role for four years before instructing at the University of Arizona South in Tucson from 2007 to 2009 and the Cochise College Benson Center from 2004 to 2011. She then taught within the St. David Unified School District #21 in Arizona until her retirement. Settling in England, she has since taught at the Hurst Community College in Baughurst, England. In addition to this tenure, Ms. Dewey instructed and consulted for the Cochise County Math Advisory Council in Bisbee, Arizona, from 2003 to 2019.
Prior to the start of her career, Ms. Dewey pursued a formal education at Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, New York, earning an Associate of Arts in science laboratory technology in 1978. She then attended the University of Arizona South in Sierra Vista, where she received a Bachelor of Education in elementary education in 2000. She went on to attain a Master of Education at the University of Phoenix in Tucson in 2005. Additionally, Ms. Dewey became certified in English as a second language in the State of Arizona in 2003.
Active in her local community, Ms. Dewey has taught Sunday school, as well as youths in the community. Furthermore, she maintains involvement with numerous organizations related to her field including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the American Education Association, as well as leading the Red for Ed in St. David School District. What Ms. Dewey is the proudest of was a computer programming group she was a part of; they had never been in a competition before, but came in second place in the state. In light of her achievements, she received an award from the Cochise County Math Advisory Council in 2005. Moreover, she was the recipient of an Achievement Award and named a Star Teacher, and was selected for inclusion in the 64th and 68th editions of Who’s Who in America.
