Backed by nearly four decades of experience with print, television, and digital media, Monica F. Gerard-Sharp is well-known throughout the communications industry. She started her career by redesigning The Chemical Engineer, the publication of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, after which she became the youngest sub-editor of the TV Times. Her success in these roles propelled her to positions like press officer at the United Nations, editor of “Everyone’s United Nations,” board representative of The USA Network, and business manager, financial analysis manager, officer, and assistant treasurer of Time Inc. (now Time Warner Inc.). During this time, Ms. Gerard-Sharp also set strategies for new media and digital ventures for HBO and ATC, and tested new technologies and cable services in the company’s incubation unit. She then left to become the publisher of travel, entrée, and home fashions magazines and the director of video programming at Capital Cities/ABC (now Disney/ABC). Today, Ms. Gerard-Sharp continues to lend her expertise to Monali Media Inc., where she has been the president since 1991. Her role includes managing the company’s media acquisitions, partnerships, and investments, directing a $50 million-plus portfolio that includes equity, partnerships, and hedge funds, and heading subsidiaries like Dandomar Company, LLC, and Wambold Farm.
Ms. Gerard-Sharp prepared for her endeavors by earning a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and literature, with honors, from the University of Warwick in 1973 and an MBA in finance, marketing, and international business from Columbia University in 1980. To ensure she remained connected with her peers and field, she joined prominent organizations like Beta Gamma Sigma, Inc.
When Ms. Gerard-Sharp has free time, she enjoys pursuing her interest in theater and community service. She is currently a panelist tasked with selecting 30 postgraduate fellows annually for the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, and has been a member of the executive committee of the Theatre for a New Audience since 2007, a member of the American Associates of the National Theatre since 2006, and a member of the advisory board of the American Museum of Natural History since 1998. She also funds educational opportunities for the disadvantage, is the founding president of the American Friends of Royal Court Theatre, and was the president and member of Chances for Children.

I had the pleasure of sitting beside this remarkable woman a few years ago at a wedding and I was blown away by her humility, presence, ability to listen and her vibrant grace. It was only later that I learned of her prodigious accomplishments and acumen. We need more people like this gracing us with their spirit…and frankly to emulate.
