With a dynamic career spanning cybersecurity, engineering, and philanthropy, Marta Teresa Emelina Acevedo Girod has leveraged her expertise across multiple industries. She applies her technical knowledge to systems engineering and information security. Ms. Girod holds a Master of Science in electrical and computer engineering from Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and a Bachelor of Science in engineering science from Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland, both of which have fueled her success. Alongside her husband, she transitioned from a focus on cybersecurity to dedicating her efforts to philanthropic endeavors.
In addition to her business endeavors, Ms. Girod has been an executive assistant and art director at the Therapeutic and Recreational Riding Center. This shows her passion for supporting individuals with special needs, particularly through equine-assisted activities. She is also an enthusiastic volunteer at HopeWorks of Howard County, contributing for more than 30 years. Ms. Girod also brings her talents to the music ministry of St. Michael Poplar Springs Catholic Church in Mount Airy, Maryland, where she has been deeply involved for many years. As an active cantor and choir member, she plays a key role in leading the congregation in worship through song. She participates in daily Mass and takes on leadership responsibilities during special services, contributing to the church’s vibrant musical tradition. Her involvement in the ministry reflects her devotion to her faith and her desire to serve her community through the power of music.
Beyond her professional and charitable work, Ms. Girod was a certified pet partner therapy dog trainer with Westy, a Beagle mix. As part of her therapy dog work, she regularly visited children on the READ Program with Westy. She has also visited special needs children with Rocky, an American Kennel Club Collie. This role brought her great fulfillment and highlighted her love for animals. In recognition of her efforts, she was honored by the National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc., in 2008 for her work in therapy dog training.
Her involvement in professional organizations, including the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, demonstrates a desire to maintain integrity in her field. In her personal life, Ms. Girod enjoys horses, dogs, singing and artwork. She also finds joy in learning Spanish in memory of her late father, reflecting her love for family and continuous learning.
