Respected for her detail-oriented nature and her ability to communicate with employees, Marjorie A. Nyquist Mero excelled in the utilities field. She started out as a clerk at the Southern California Gas Company, and grew into more advanced positions like engineer technician and job analyst at Power Co. and compensation supervisor at the Washington Water Power Co. (now the Avista Corporation). Ms. Mero knew she had found her niche when she joined Avista. She was promoted to compensation administrator after nine years in her previous position there, and to compensation manager two years after that. She retired from the organization as a human resources strategist in 1998. While she was with Avista, she also garnered experience with the Consumer Credit Counseling Service and Northwest Electric and Light.
Ms. Mero prepared for her endeavors by completing coursework at Spokane Falls Community College and Kinman Business University. She also became a certified compensation professional and joined the Spokane Chamber of Commerce, the American Compensation Association, the Northwest Compensation Forum, and the Pacific Coast Gas Association.
When Ms. Mero has free time, she enjoys pursuing hobbies like art, reading, photography, and genealogy. She has been painting watercolors since 1967 and serving as a calligrapher since 1984. To keep in touch with the artistic community, she joined prominent groups like Write On Calligraphers, Scripts & Scribes, the River Ridge Association of Fine Arts, and the Spokane Calligraphic Art Society. On the genealogy side of the spectrum, Ms. Mero is active with the Eastern Washington Genealogical Society, where she serves as a leader of the ancestry group.
Notably, Ms. Mero was named in the Diversity Resource Action Packet distributed by the Spokane Task Force on Race Relations in 2003. She was also named an Outstanding Service Member of the River Ridge Association of Fine Arts. Her achievements were featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, and Who’s Who of American Women.
