Marcy L. Church is a Training and Development professional and emerging human performance consultant whose work is shaped by disciplined service, practical business experience, military community support, and a people-first approach to growth. Her career has developed across legal service environments, Department of Defense operations, military healthcare, leadership development, client service, finance and tax preparation, and organizational support. Across each chapter, she has remained focused on helping people, teams, and organizations understand what they need to perform with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Ms. Church believes meaningful Training and Development begins with listening, curiosity, and care. Her approach focuses on understanding the environment in which people are working, the expectations placed on them, and the systems, feedback, leadership support, and resources available to help them succeed. This perspective continues to shape her professional direction as she builds toward consulting work in human performance improvement, leadership development, and practical, human-centered organizational solutions.
Ms. Church’s professional foundation began in legal service environments that required discipline, confidentiality, professionalism, and attention to detail. Shortly after high school, she supported legal office operations and learned from early mentors who shaped her understanding of service, structure, accountability, and professional standards. She later carried this foundation into her Department of Defense career with the JAG Corps, working directly under the supervision of the Chief of Legal Services. During combat deployment cycles, she supported legal readiness efforts that helped soldiers prepare for wartime service by ensuring critical personal, family, and financial matters were completed accurately and with care, allowing them to focus on their missions with greater peace of mind.
Ms. Church’s federal service later expanded into military healthcare operations within the Managed Care Division’s Beneficiary Services Branch. In this role, she supported soldiers, military families, veterans, retirees, and other military-connected beneficiaries by helping improve communication, service access, and resource awareness. She also took on additional volunteer responsibilities as a collateral duty safety officer (CDSO) for her branch and as a supply manager responsible for office supply readiness and reorders. These roles strengthened her appreciation for daily operational support, compliance, safety, coordination, and the behind-the-scenes systems that help people receive timely service and support.
Ms. Church’s service has been formally recognized through the Army Department of Defense Achievement Medal for outstanding service, a medal from the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, the Honorable Order of St. Joan d’Arc as a military spouse, and multiple challenge coins and recognitions from Army leaders. These honors reflect her long-standing commitment to service members, military families, retirees, and the communities connected to military life.
For more than 20 years, Ms. Church also served alongside her husband’s Army career, navigating relocations, deployments, reinvention, and the steady work of rebuilding community across changing seasons. Military life shaped her resilience, adaptability, and deep respect for the strength, service, and professional capability developed through military family life. As a mother, military spouse, and professional, she understands the invisible responsibilities people often carry while still being expected to lead, adapt, serve, and perform.
Ms. Church’s professional experience also includes business operations, recruitment operations, client service, analytics, finance and tax preparation, and leadership development. She completed five tax seasons preparing individual tax returns, work that strengthened her attention to detail, compliance awareness, client communication, and ability to support people through financially important decisions. From 2022 to 2025, she supported Thayer Leadership at West Point, where she contributed to experiential leadership programs designed to strengthen reflection, resilience, decision-making, and team performance. She also served as an account manager and recruiting assistant with Carework, supporting client relationships, operational coordination, talent acquisition, and onboarding processes.
To continue developing her expertise, Ms. Church is participating in a yearlong mentorship through American Corporate Partners (ACP), with a focus on enterprise Training and Development, leadership development, performance measurement, and human performance improvement. She is also an active member of both the Ann Arbor Chapter of the Association for Talent Development (ATD) and the National Association for Talent Development.
Ms. Church holds a Master of Science in administration with a concentration in training and development from Central Michigan University, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Troy University, and an associate’s degree in occupational studies from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute. Her continued learning includes professional development in instructional design foundations, learning strategy, leadership development, human performance technology, performance measurement, analytics, and workplace learning tools.
Beyond her professional roles, Ms. Church builds community through athletics, service, faith-based involvement, military family support, and meaningful connection. An avid volleyball player, golfer, two-time half-marathon finisher, Army Ten-Miler finisher in Washington, D.C., and participant in multiple 5K and 10K races over the past 20 years, she views active pursuits as a reflection of discipline, preparation, resilience, and follow-through. She enjoys experiencing different golf courses and spending time outdoors through volleyball, biking, running, and other activities that build focus, connection, and personal growth.
Ms. Church remains engaged in activities that strengthen community and support others, including church involvement, nonprofit fundraising, breast cancer awareness efforts, golf fundraisers, military family support events, and other service-oriented opportunities. These experiences reflect her commitment to continued growth, meaningful connection, and the success of the individuals, families, and teams around her.
Looking ahead, Ms. Church is building a consulting practice focused on Training and Development and human performance improvement. Her goal is to help leaders and organizations look beneath the surface of performance challenges, understand what people and systems need to succeed, and design practical solutions that support clarity, capability, and sustainable growth. Her career and life story reflect disciplined service, lifelong learning, resilience, and a steady commitment to helping others move forward with purpose.
