Applying her expertise to helping others navigate the complex landscape of tax laws and finance, Linda A. Hamilton is an experienced and successful tax professional, certified public accountant (CPA), certified exit planning advisor (CEPA), and SYSTEMologist®. She has thrived operating her eponymous business, Linda A. Hamilton, CPA, LLC, since founding the company in 2004. In this role, she serves as a tax advisor for business and nonprofit clients, educates them on tax laws, and navigates financial regulations. Previously, Ms. Hamilton served as the co-founder and partner of Hamilton, Scarpati & Quinn LLC from 1990 to 2004. She began her career in 1986 as a supervisor with Coopers & Lybrand.
Laying early foundations for her professional journeys, Ms. Hamilton attended Baruch College, part of the City University of New York System, and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting in 1986. With proven qualifications, she became a CPA in 1989 and has remained committed to her professional development throughout her career. Earning Xero and WorkFlowMax certifications in 2016, she completed Intuit’s QuickBooks ProAdvisor Advanced Online Certification in 2019. In 2020, Ms. Hamilton earned her CEPA designation through the Exit Planning Institute, after which she received her SYSTEMologist® certification with systemHUB. She completed the One-Page Marketing Plan certification with Successwise in 2022 and became a certified consultant with Trainual in 2023.
Throughout her esteemed career as an accountant and tax professional, Ms. Hamilton has been devoted to civic engagement. Since 2016, she has contributed as a business leader, mentor, and trainer for the Sage Advice Program, a collaborative partnership between Capital One and WBEC Metro New York and Greater DMV, a community of women-owned businesses. Alongside this role, she has been a tax advisor for the Foundation of the Women Presidents Organization Inc. since 2016 and a treasurer for the New York Women’s Agenda since 2011. In a long stint from 1995 to 2019, Ms. Hamilton was a volunteer preschool teacher and past treasurer of the parents’ association of the New York City Unitarian Church of All Souls.
In 2024, Ms. Hamilton was named one of fourteen business leaders to receive the national WBE Star award for leadership excellence by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council. She received the Best in Business Advisory award from the Panalitix Annual Achievement Awards and the President’s Award from the Women President’s Educational Organization in 2018. CorporateAmerica named Ms. Hamilton the Best Small Business Accountant during its Finance Awards in 2016.
Staying connected to and contributing to the latest advancements in her field through memberships with numerous professional organizations, Ms. Hamilton has been a member of the advisory board for Enterprising Women since 2013. Since 2005, she has been an accountant and advisory board member for the Women President’s Organization. As a board member and past treasurer for the Financial Women’s Association, she has also maintained affiliation with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Partnership & LLC Tax Committee, Beta Gamma Sigma, The Institute of Advisors, and the Women’s Business Enterprise Council, among other organizations.
Ms. Hamilton takes pride in her work and is gratified to educate and empower woman business owners. She helps them understand their financial standing, tax obligations, and business growth potential. In the years to come, she plans to emphasize the importance of having a business strategy and exit plan even for business owners who are not considering retirement. As the first member of her family to attend college, Ms. Hamilton found her way to her current profession after taking an introductory accounting course and working as a bookkeeper. After attending college at night for a decade, she secured her bachelor’s degree and has never looked back. She looks forward to continuing to help others protect their investments, mitigate risks, and prepare for unexpected challenges.
