Launching a successful beauty lounge from the ground up requires more than technical skill. It takes vision, determination and a deep connection to one’s craft, qualities that Larkin Maely Cole has brought to the forefront of her career as owner and master cosmetologist at Gray & Grace Beauty Lounge and Extension Bar. Since opening the salon, she has led it to rapid acclaim, establishing a name for herself in the beauty industry and earning a nomination for Best of Troup County. With a specialization in blonding and hair extensions, she has cultivated a loyal clientele and gained national recognition as an educator for a leading extension brand. Her expertise in her niche has opened the door to opportunities as a mentor and trainer, including teaching at Premiere Orlando, one of the most prominent hair shows in the United States.

Ms. Cole’s professional journey began at West Georgia Technical College, where she earned an associate degree in cosmetology. Her formal education gave her a strong foundation in hair care and salon management, laying the foundation for her entrepreneurial success. In addition to her degree, she holds professional certifications as a hair extension specialist through Donna Bella Hair Extension and as a spray tan artist through Norvell University. These credentials have equipped her with a broad service offering and enabled her to deliver consistently high-quality results for her clients.

Ms. Cole’s passion for learning and development is not limited to her own pursuits. She has continued to invest in the next generation of beauty professionals through active partnerships with West Georgia Technical College and Think Academy. These relationships allow cosmetology students to gain practical, hands-on experience in a professional setting. Her salon serves as a learning hub where aspiring stylists can apply classroom instruction to real-world practice. The initiative stems from her own experience as a student and reflects her commitment to fostering growth and opportunity in her field.

Community involvement remains a cornerstone of Ms. Cole’s values. She maintains an active role in local civic life through her membership with the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce and ongoing support for Refuge City Church. Her contributions also extend to LaGrange College, where she supports the college’s athletics department, particularly the softball team, through various outreach efforts.

Faith, family and resilience are at the center of Ms. Cole’s journey. She credits her mother as a source of inspiration and encouragement, particularly during challenging periods that included navigating early motherhood and career transitions. These personal trials have shaped her approach to leadership and service, reinforcing the importance of perseverance and gratitude. The name of her salon, Gray & Grace, reflects these themes. “Gray” pays tribute to her daughter, while “Grace” represents the spiritual strength that has guided her throughout her life.

As she looks to the future, Ms. Cole plans to expand her salon by increasing the number of stations and completing renovations that will accommodate a growing team. She also hopes to raise the visibility of her staff and deepen their involvement in community engagement. With a focus on spiritual growth and professional excellence, she remains committed to nurturing both her business and the community that surrounds it.
