Juliana Marques

Juliana Marques is a lawyer and highly experienced taxation and international tax planning professional. As the senior tax principal for Airbnb Inc., an international broker for booking homestays and lodging rentals, Ms. Marques is responsible for leading the company’s international taxation, compliance, and tax planning efforts. In addition, she manages the organizational structure and oversees Airbnb’s Live and Work Anywhere Program, which offers employees flexibility regarding their work location.

Ms. Marques manages the international tax impact of new business, regularly communicates with corporate peers, obtains feedback, and seeks input from peer technology companies to stay up to date with developments in the industry. She has been the co-chair of Airbnb’s D&B education and development pillar since 2021 and serves on the diversity and belonging committee. Prior to her current role, Ms. Marques spent nearly a decade as a senior tax associate with Baker McKenzie from 2012 to 2021 and worked for Praxair, now Linde PLC, as a tax accountant from 2007 to 2009.

Well-educated and credentialed, Ms. Marques studied at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, Connecticut, graduating magna cum laude in 2005 with an Associate of Science in business management. After garnering experience as a tax intern, she completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting, magna cum laude, at Western Connecticut State University in 2007. Throughout her academic journey, Ms. Marques remained committed to gaining practical experience. To this end, she worked as a summer associate and intern with Hildebrand, Mariano & Rathje in 2010 and a summer associate and intern for Baker McKenzie in 2011. In 2012, she graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in business and international law. Following this achievement, she was admitted to practice law in the state of California. Alongside her formal degrees, Ms. Marques holds a certificate in international law and an additional certificate in business law. In 2009, she earned certification in Spanish from the Don Quijote Language School, and in 2024, she obtained a certificate in interior design from The Interior Design Institute.

Ms. Marques is an active and prolific contributor to publications in her industry. In 2021, she co-authored “Will Pillar 1 Gain Impetus and Reach a Consensus-Based Solution in 2021?” on the Baker McKenzie Blog. In 2018, she co-authored “Brazilian Interest on Equity After U.S. Tax Reform” in Volume 47 of Bloomberg Tax’s Tax Management International Journal. She has been featured in Marquis Who’s Who Millennium Magazine and has contributed to numerous journal articles, papers, and presentations. As a sought-after voice in taxation, Ms. Marques has been a host and moderator for events in Silicon Valley and participated in various tax law and tax policy panels. Among her ongoing professional activities, she was the vice president and editor for the Western Connecticut State University Accounting Society and served the Berkeley Journal of International Law as an associate editor and submissions committee member.

For her professional excellence, Ms. Marques received multiple awards from Western Connecticut State University, including the Business School Dean’s Award in 2007 and the Connecticut Society of CPAs Award in 2006. She was also named to the Dean’s List at Western Connecticut State. To stay on top of and contribute to developments in her field, she has maintained membership in the International Fiscal Association’s Northern California Chapter, the Association of Latino Professionals for America, the American Bar Association, the California Society of CPAs, and the State Bar of California.

Outside of her primary roles, Ms. Marques has professional aspirations as a real estate investor and has been steadily expanding her portfolio of properties. In the future, she plans to continue advancing her career with Airbnb while growing her real estate business and employing her interior design skill set. In her leisure time, Ms. Marques enjoys traveling, listening to music, and reading about interior design.
