JUDITH SHARP CAIN

Judith Sharp Cain, EdD, began her distinguished career in 1972 as an estimator for Dubroc and Associates Inc., in Lafayette, Louisiana. After nine years, she began working in various academic roles, initially serving as a middle school mathematics educator for the Lafayette Parish School Board and teaching at the Cathedral Carmel School in 1986. Maintaining her affiliation with the district into the present day, she has earned distinction as a workshop and in-services presenter since 1997, and notably held the title of a lead teacher between 1999 and 2013. Additionally, Dr. Cain has held various other positions outside the classroom, including as an educational facilitator for the Acadiana Brain Injury Center and educational consultant for the Evangeline Parish.

A focused and dedicated leader, Dr. Cain has been active as a mathematics tutor, guest speaker, committee member and presenter of numerous workshops for local, state and national conferences. She also taught as an adjunct instructor at South Louisiana Community College between 1999 and 2004, and the University of Louisiana from 2006 to 2014. Dr. Cain has likewise been involved in numerous other capacities including as a mathematics workshop consultant and teacher trainer for various school districts throughout Louisiana since 1999, as a member of the LEAP item review committee for the Louisiana Department of Education since 2003 and as a teacher leader advisory committee member of the Louisiana Department of Education since 2017.

Throughout the course of her career in education, Dr. Cain has stridently impressed her expectations upon her students so that they would constantly strive to live up to them. Experienced in working with every age group and level, from the very gifted to special needs, she has always pushed her students to be the very best they could be. Dr. Cain’s commitment and tireless efforts have been equally key to her own success as an educator.

Deeply influential within her community, Dr. Cain is a volunteer for the Special Olympics and the Louisiana State Wrestling Tournament. She is also a parishioner at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Youngsville, Louisiana. She notably studied at the University of Louisiana, where she received an undergraduate degree in 1984, a Master of Education in 1989 and an EdD in educational leadership in 2010. Eminently qualified in her field, Dr. Cain holds multiple certifications in education, including as a supervisor of student teachers, early adolescence teacher of mathematics, administrator, supervisor of instruction and secondary mathematics teacher. She is also nationally board certified in educational administration/mathematics.

As a commitment to her field, Dr. Cain has been active with several pertinent organizations. Among them, she is a member of the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Louisiana Teachers of Mathematics, the Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, among others. Meanwhile, some of Dr. Cain’s avocational memberships include the National Wildlife Federation, the Ocean Conservancy and the Arbor Day Foundation.

Dr. Cain has been named as an Outstanding Teacher by the Diocese of Lafayette for the 1993-1994 academic school year and as Teacher of the Year by the Lafayette Parish for 2000. She was also named to Woman of Achievement in 2007. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Cain has been featured in over 30 editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who the World.
