Who's Who of Professional Women

JOYCE MCBRIDE

Possessing a knack for numbers from a young age, Joyce McBride began her professional career as the assistant controller at Hampton Court Knits in Los Angeles in 1967, remaining in this position for 11 years before owning and managing her own business, the McBride & Associates Bookkeeping Service, which she has continued to do ever since. During this time, she was also part of the staff at Wallace & Wallace Accountancy Corporation from 2008 to 2019. Ms. McBride has had very great people that she has worked with over the years.

Prior to the start of her career, Ms. McBride pursued a formal education at the College of Business of Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, graduating in 1947. Unsure of what path she would take, one professor continued to ensure her how great she was with numbers until she decided to pursue accounting, realizing that he was right.

The recipient of the coveted Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, Ms. McBride is proudest of her three adult children, Jan Coffman, Gary and Kandie Van Affelen, who have grown up to be successful, and she continues to keep a close relationship with them. It has been a blessing and they are her inspiration to keep going daily. Likewise, Ms. McBride is a doting grandmother to six beloved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She has been lucky to have had very great people whom she has worked with over the years. She is motivated by the fact that she got into a profession where she enjoys what she does.

The advice Ms. McBride has for those looking to pursue a career in her field is that they have to keep learning, accept new and different ideas, keep an open mind and just absorb whatever they can get their hands on. It is sometimes not easy to deal with some people, but that is what it takes to handle accounts.
