Jane Lee Mullowney is an accomplished author and artist who has additionally led an extensive career in environmental work. First earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Loyola Marymount University, she began her professional endeavors during her college years, selling her artwork and taking commissions to put herself through school. Following her graduation, she joined Westsail Parts Co. in Newport Beach, California, as the vice president of sales from 1974 to 1975. Ms. Mullowney entered the environmental field in 1976 as a marketing engineer for the Environmental Data Corporation, where she remained until 1978.
From 1978 to 1984, Ms. Mullowney was the director of marketing for the Contraves Goerz Corp. During this time, she furthered her studies at the California State University, graduating from the College of Business and Economics with a master’s degree in international marketing, aerospace engineering and art in 1980. She subsequently served as the vice president of engineering, sales and marketing for Enviropian Inc. from 1984 to 1994 and the president of the Shamrock Environmental Corporation from 1994 to 1997. Acting as the president for Air-World Environmental Inc. from 1997 to 2003, she joined Monitor Tech Lab LLC as president in 2003, operating out of Miami, Florida, and Columbus, Ohio. In her various positions, Ms. Mullowney has had the opportunity to travel to 62 countries around the world.
Since 2017, Ms. Mullowney has been the president of Monitor Tech Lab LLC in Columbus, Ohio, where her focus has been on developing smaller equipment that is both easier to maintain and more affordable than what is being offered by her competitors. Over the course of her career, she has published more than 50 articles and technical papers in professional journals and has presented over 100 papers at various industry conventions and conferences on such topics as technology development and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws. Furthermore, she spent time on the acid rain advisory committee for the 1990 Clean Air Act and a variety of committees and the EPA board of the Air Waste Management Association. Ms. Mullowney is also a member of the Instrument Society of America.
Today, Ms. Mullowney has brought her longstanding love of writing to the worlds of fiction and poetry. Writing from her background as a transgender woman, her novel series, “Love and Revenge,” focuses on LGBTQ protagonists and kicked off in 2019 with “The Red Bitch’s Revenge.” This was followed by “Red’s Revenge” in 2020 and “Angel: The Assassin” in January 2021. Several months later, in June 2021, she released a standalone novel, “Identity,” and is continuing to work on her next book. In addition, she has begun the process of pitching “Love and Revenge” to Netflix at the advice of her neighbor Jill, who is a TV and movie producer. Ms. Mullowney has also returned to her artistic endeavors and currently specializes in oil and charcoal painting as well as concrete sculpture.
For her excellence in all aspects of her career, Ms. Mullowney has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades, including various sales awards and winning third place in a competition. Most notably, she has been awarded two patents for inventions in the field of environmental services, specifically for devices designed to measure the emissions coming out of smokestacks. Above all these accomplishments, however, Ms. Mullowney considers her novel series to be her greatest career achievement.
Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to parents Louella and Robert Mullowney, Ms. Mullowney is today the loving grandmother to one grandchild. She also gives back to her community through her work with a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C., where she visits senators and congress members to discuss transgender rights and education. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, traveling and sailboat racing, which she has done since she was 12. Ms. Mullowney hopes to leave a legacy as a great novelist and as someone who left a significant mark on the environmental industry.
