Eleanor M.L. Shotton, Esq., excels as an associate attorney at Pesetsky & Bookman PC in New York, representing clients, reviewing documents to support applications, and analyzing financial records, site plans, and menus for outdoor cafes. Before joining Pesetsky & Bookman PC, Ms. Shotton was an associate attorney at The Ramcharitar Law Firm in Valley Stream, New York, and a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County in New York, first handling misdemeanor cases in the Legal Aid Society’s general division and quickly advancing to working on felony cases in less than a year. By 2021, she had joined the Pre-Indictment Felony Bureau, representing clients charged with serious crimes. In this role, Ms. Shotton was a devoted advocate for clients facing substantial jail time.
Developing an affinity for criminal defense early in her career, which was solidified during her time as a public defender on Long Island in New York, Ms. Shotton sought to serve her community. After more than four years in public defense, she transitioned to private criminal defense practice, continuing to defend clients while honing her legal skills. In 2017, she served as a marshal to Judge Christopher Kinch at Woolwich Crown Court in the United Kingdom, where she was able to observe the legal process in a different system.
In preparation for her professional experience, she first attended Syracuse University, graduating magna cum laude in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology, minoring in history and psychology. During her time at Syracuse University, Ms. Shotton was an active member of several honor societies, including Phi Delta Phi, Lambda Alpha, and Phi Alpha Theta. She was also part of the Renée Crown University Honors Program and earned a coveted spot on the university’s Dean’s List. Following this achievement, she enrolled in Brooklyn Law School, where she earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2019. During her time in law school, she participated in the 2018 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and was honored among the top four oralists in the U.S. Northeast Region. Ms. Shotton’s exceptional performance helped her team reach the semifinals. In addition, while completing her legal education, she participated in the Criminal Defense & Advocacy Clinic and the Safe Harbor Asylum Clinic, both part of the BLS Legal Services Corporation. Moreover, she secured invaluable experience as an intern with Brooklyn Defender Services from 2016 to 2017.
Beyond her primary position at Pesetsky & Bookman PC, Ms. Shotton is passionate about serving her community and contributes her time to civic and volunteer efforts. Since 2018, she has been a legal volunteer with the Immigration Court Helpdesk, part of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York. She also volunteers regularly with the Food Bank and Rescue Mission, providing vital support to individuals and families in need. Her dedication to helping others extends back to her undergraduate education at Syracuse University, during which she volunteered at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and with Vincent House, a Catholic Charities program in Onondaga County.
Excited about the future, Ms. Shotton aims to expand her work within at Pesetsky & Bookman PC and achieve new milestones in her legal career. Driven by her desire to grow and represent her clients to the best of her ability, she plans to widen her reach within the legal community.
