Edith Dorsey

Edith D. Dorsey, PhD, earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. After working several years as a registered nurse, Dr. Dorsey quickly realized that she could contribute more to others and the world by continuing her education and acquiring business experience to complement her clinical expertise.

Dr. Dorsey received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Doctor of Philosophy in business administration, specializing in leadership and organizational development, from North Central University. Her leadership research was described as “ground-breaking.” She received high scholastic recognition from two international honor societies during her doctoral program and completed advanced leadership studies at Wharton and Harvard. Dr. Dorsey is a certified project management professional and scrum master and holds a Six Sigma Black Belt.

Concerning her business experience, Dr. Dorsey is an accomplished senior executive with almost 40 years of operations experience in corporate America and is the president, chief executive officer and founder of EDD Consulting, LLC. As a consultant, she partners with companies facing challenges related to people, processes and technology. Dr. Dorsey is currently working for GuideStone Financial as the principal experience and innovation champion. In this role, her mission is to bring to market disruptive health care solutions only offered by GuideStone.

Before GuideStone, Dr. Dorsey was the vice president of claims enterprise operations at Delta Dental, vice president of national claims administration at Kaiser Permanente, and senior vice president of operations at UCare. Earlier in her career, she moved through five very high-profile, executive-level leadership roles at United Healthcare, developing an enviable track record of personal performance in turnarounds, systems initiatives, customer service, and business planning while bringing enterprise-wide solutions to operating problems.

Much of Dr. Dorsey’s career has been spent in senior leadership roles where she has made game-changing contributions in planning, reengineering business processes, systems development, cost reduction initiatives, and business transformations, all focused on increasing efficiency, mitigating potential losses, and improving profits. She is skilled at managing complex operational, organizational and risk management challenges, bringing an understanding of both the technical and operating sides of business issues that enables her to solve complex problems and think “outside the box” when new solutions are required. Her unique blend of analytical strengths, communications skills, financial experience, and leadership abilities have equipped Dr. Dorsey to be a strong contributor in various leadership roles.

Dr. Dorsey is regarded as a “full spectrum leader” who shapes the future, delivers results, energizes teams and builds strong relationships. Throughout her career, she has helped organizations and individuals solve hundreds of complex workplace problems. A noteworthy accomplishment was when she achieved the highest employee engagement scores at two Minneapolis-based companies. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Dorsey realized the most effective problem solvers not only focus on facts and data, they also truly value people and their contributions.

Understanding that problem solving includes the need for emotional intelligence and developing relationships, Dr. Dorsey recently wrote “Dance Your Way to Happiness: Accomplish More in the Workplace With an Easy Problem-Solving Methodology.” She seeks to leave a legacy of leaders and problem solvers and widen her readership by distributing the book to college students and professionals who could benefit from expert business guidance.
