With more than 45 years of industry experience to her credit, Dolores E. Winkler has been retired since 1995, having most recently worked as the director of budgets and reimbursement for the Aurora West Allis Medical Center from 1985 to 1995. Prior to this appointment, she served Aurora West Allis Medical Center as a reimbursement analyst from 1978 to 1985, chief accountant from 1970 to 1978 and staff accountant from 1968 to 1970. Ms. Winkler began her career as an accountant for the Curative Care Network from 1949 to 1960.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Winkler pursued an education at the Business Institute of Milwaukee, graduating in 1949. During this time, she was appointed as the governor of Beta Chi Rho in 1948. Beyond her responsibilities within the field, she has participated on the advisory council and financial committee for the Tau Home Health Care Agency from 1981 to 1983. In addition to her primary trade, Ms. Winkler remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She has contributed to the Institute of Management Accountants, Inc., as president from 1983 to 1984, national director from 1986 to 1988 and president of the mid-American regional council from 1988 to 1989. She had previously maintained involvement with the Healthcare Financial Management Association, for which she held the role of president from 1989 to 1990. Likewise, she is a member of the National Society of Accountants and Saint Mary’s Seniors.
Ms. Winkler wanted to make her parents proud, for as hard as they worked even during the Great Depression. She worked hard in grade school to get a scholarship to go to Mesmer High School because she wanted to succeed. As for her career, she became involved in finances and accounting because of her affinity for mathematics. The highlights that have stood out the most in Ms. Winkler’s career were the instances in which she was, to her surprise, nominated to become president of the various organizations she joined. Today, she is proud to be married to her husband of 69 years, Donald James Winkler, with whom she has raised one son, David John and one granddaughter, Sarah Catherine.
