Who's Who of Professional Women

CORTNEY ROY

Backed by several years of excellence in business management, Cortney Roy has earned distinction as an entrepreneur and the leader of her own company. For the past eight years, she has excelled as the owner and chief executive officer of A Touch Above, Inc., a residential and commercial cleaning service. Since 2015, she has focused her efforts on providing a variety of services, including moving, cleaning, apartment turnovers, Airbnb turnovers and student housing turnovers.

Ms. Roy’s company covers all of Albany County, New York, and the surrounding counties, whereas their competition targets specific towns and counties. They also have team leaders spaced out in multiple areas, allowing them to provide complete services over a wide area. Outside of her primary career efforts, Ms. Roy is a valued member of the American House Cleaners Association and her local chamber of commerce. She is a former member of the Better Business Bureau.

At the start of her professional journey, Ms. Roy graduated from Averill Park High School in Averill Park, New York. She recalls that she had never taken a business class during her high school years, which required her to develop her business acumen from different sources. She has utilized the guidance of multiple business mentors, including that of a woman from Victoria, Australia, along with the advice of her mother, who worked for the state of New York, and her father, who was quite business savvy. Ms. Roy also recounts the process of trial and error to figure out business strategies that worked for her company.

Reflecting on her career as an entrepreneur thus far, Ms. Roy is proud to have built her business from scratch, all while being a stay-at-home mother. Since its early days, she has grown the company to have 14 employees with incorporated office space in Albany, New York. She credits much of her success to her strong will and stubborn personality, never settling for less than her goals.

In the coming years, Ms. Roy intends to work toward expanding their services to include things like car detailing, snow removal and painting, potentially expanding to another location in the process. Her advice to budding business owners is never to give up, as she is a firm believer that anyone can achieve whatever it is they put their mind to. When she is not working, she enjoys exploring nature, which includes hiking with her dogs, and spending time with her two young daughters.
