Connie Goodman-Milone

With a background in social work, psychology and health care, Connie Goodman-Milone has become a valued member of the medical writing community. She started as a freelance writer in Philadelphia in 1987, and moved to New York in 1989. She now lends her knowledge to freelance pieces in Miami and to “The Bereavement Poetry Project,” which she has co-authored since 2016. Some of her other recent publications include “Healthy Stories,” “Vitas Vital Signs,” “The Grief Observer” and “Today’s Caregiver.” She was a contributing writer for The Miami Herald from 2002 to 2017, and in 2017, she served as the director of community relations for the South Florida Writers Association.

Ms. Goodman-Milone prepared for her endeavors by earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the George Washington University in 1985 and a Master of Social Work from Barry University in 1999. She also garnered experience as a social work intern in the Miami Veterans Healthcare System through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. To connect with her peers, Ms. Goodman-Milone joined prominent organizations like the National Writers Union, the Florida State Poets Association, the National Association of Social Workers and the National Association for Poetry Therapy.

When Ms. Goodman-Milone has free time, she enjoys photography, tennis, walking and reading books, as well as volunteering. She is a re-election campaign volunteer for Daniella Levine Cava for the Miami-Dade County Commission, and is a supporter of the American Section of the World Jewish Congress, USA for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Sandy Hook Promise, Americans for Responsible Solutions, Susan G. Komen, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society, the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Miami and the American Jewish World Service. She is also involved with Amnesty International, the Leader’s Club of the National Wildlife Federation, the Humane Society of United States, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Natural Resources Defense Council and People for the American Way, among many others. Other roles include field partner for Doctors Without Borders, director of the creative writing committee at the Junior Orange Bowl, wildlife guardian through Defenders for Wildlife, volunteer and contributor to the Florida Democratic U.S. Congressional Campaign and champion of the American Red Cross.

In recognition of her efforts, Ms. Goodman-Milone was honored with numerous poetry awards from writing contests at the South Florida Writers Association between 2013 and 2017, the 11-Year Volunteer Award from Vitas Healthcare in 2011, the Bill Katzker Member of the Year Award from the South Florida Writers Association in 2003 and the Bereavement Volunteer of the Year Award from the Vitas Dade Program in 2001. Her achievements were featured among the pages of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women. Further, she was thrilled to be interviewed by Jim Masters from CUTV News Radio. It was such a success that had six more scheduled with him between May and June 2018. One topic she was excited to do was on charitable giving, and how giving to charities does not have to be in the multi-thousand dollars; a lot of people contributing smaller amounts can make a difference.
