Charleen Verena Kavleski is a prolific artist in the State of New York, whose expertise stems from her early family mentorship and her extensive New York City gallery and museum exposure, as well as her college education. Serving as an art teacher for the Monticello Central School District for more than 30 years beginning in 1968, she retired from her position in 1999 to commit herself full-time to artistic endeavors. During her educational tenure, she also served Robert J. Kaiser Middle School as an art advisor and editor of the literary and art magazine. From 1983 to 2009, she was an antiques and art dealer at Brockmann’s Antique Center in Milford, New York. Since departing from Brockmann’s, Mrs. Kavleski has dedicated her time to Albatross Antiques and Art in South Fallsburg, New York.
She is also a board member of the Amos Eno Gallery, where she has previously served as treasurer between 1991 and 1994. Drawing upon an exceptional education in the fine arts, she has been commissioned by Christopher Coleman Interior Design to create an installation of painted constructions in 2013. Earlier in her art career, she was featured multiple times in the Sullivan County Democrat, as well as in the Times Herald Record, the Great Neck Record and Temple Emanuel of Great Neck.
Mrs. Kavleski pursued a formal education at Orange County Community College, otherwise known as SUNY Orange, earning an Associate of Arts in 1963 and an Associate of Applied Science in 1964. Later that same year, she continued coursework the John Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University. Mrs. Kavleski went on to attend the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she attained a Bachelor of Science in 1967 and completed graduate coursework in fine arts between 1965 and 1972.
Featured prominently throughout several art institutions across the nation, Mrs. Kavleski has participated in both group and solo exhibitions at the Amos Eno Gallery in New York, the Sylvia Wald and Po Kim Art Gallery, the Catskill Art Society, the Albany Center Gallery, the Plotkin Gallery and the Sullivan County Historical Society, among several other galleries. In addition, her work was exhibited at the Three Rivers Art Festival in Pittsburgh, as well as at the Haggin Museum in Stockton, California, and the Shimizu American Corporation in Durham, North Carolina.
As a testament to her artistic prowess, Mrs. Kavleski has further been commissioned by Dr. Goddard Lainjo in Middletown, New York, and by Dr. Gustav Gavis in Monticello, New York. In 1988, she was featured in Les Krantz’s “The New York Art Review.” Most recently, she won the Eve Helman Memorial Award for Works on Paper at the National Association of Women Artists Awards in 2018, and the Elizabeth Horman Memorial Award for Digital Art from the 125th Annual Exhibition of the National Association of Women Artists in 2014. Recognized with a First Place designation for her installation at the Nepenthe Mundi Emerald City Classic, she also accepted the Miriam E. Halpern Memorial Award at the 105th Annual Exhibition of the National Association of Women Artists.
