Bridgette L. Gomillion-Williams, PhD, is a silicon chemist with more than 32 years of expertise in polymer science, chemistry, and engineering. Since 2017, she has been a senior silicon chemist with Quanex Building Products, where her work focuses on creating energy-efficient components for double-pane windows as well as components for residential kitchen and bath cabinets. A gifted student with a strong sense of natural curiosity, she earned a Bachelor of Science in polymer chemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1990 and began her career as a chemical engineer working at an extrusion plant operated by Shaw Industries.
Dr. Gomillion-Williams remained with Shaw Industries until 1992, and opted to pursue doctoral study in polymer science at Clemson University’s School of Material Science and Engineering. She credits her career success to her intellectual curiosity and desire to continue learning and researching, and in 2000, she was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in polymer science. She returned to the chemical manufacturing industry the same year as a senior research engineer for the Dow Chemical Company, rising to product development specialist in 2003.Dr. Gomillion-Williams left the Dow Chemical Company in 2009 to accept a position with Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, where she spent the next eight years leading an interdisciplinary team in projects to develop and refine novel silicon compounds for use in a broad range of industries and applications.
Throughout her career, Dr. Gomillion-Williams’ work has included work on soft polymer foams, adhesives and sealants, and parts for medical devices, in addition to analysis and troubleshooting of manufacturing and production processes. She considers her greatest achievement thus far to be inventing and patenting the continuous flow chaotic maker. A proven leader in polymer science, research and development, and technical project management, she has been named 2017 Professional of the Year and honored as an Industry Expert, among many other accolades. She has been featured twice in Pro-Files Magazine and presented with the exclusive Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her contributions to materials chemistry.
As an expert in polymers, silicon compounds, and process engineering, Dr. Gomillion-Williams is affiliated with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Fiber Society, the American Chemical Society and the Society of Plastics Engineers. She hopes to continue to grow as a professional and find further opportunities to expand her knowledge base, and looks forward to the chance to teach or lecture at the postsecondary level. In her leisure time, Dr. Gomillion-Williams enjoys reading and golfing, and is an accomplished musician, playing both the piano and flute.
