Anne Impellizzeri has always had an affinity for public service. During her long and distinguished career in the insurance industry, she was able to utilize her skills to build a good rapport with clients and peers alike. She started out working for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York, where she worked her way up to become assistant vice president in corporate social responsibility, and then vice president of group insurance. She also served as vice president of New York City Partnership, president and chief executive officer of Blanton-Peale Institute, and executive director of Manitoga, the modernist home of industrial designer Russel Wright in Garrison, N.Y.
A highlight of Ms. Impellizzeri’s career was directing corporate social responsibility at Metropolitan Life, where she affected internal public policy in the targeted suppliers program. She encouraged all divisions of the company to increase their purchases of supplies and services, from minority- and women-owned businesses. The activity in that program has increased and Ms. Impellizzeri is proud to know that it continues. She attributes her success to being in the right place at the right time and to seizing the opportunities presented.
In her community, Ms. Impellizzeri volunteered for the Cold Spring Special Board for a Comprehensive Plan for Local Waterfront Revitalization at its inception in 2006 and remains on the Cold Spring, Long Island, planning board. She also volunteered to lead walking tours with the Putnam County History Museum, and has been active in other philanthropic efforts over the years. From 2004 to 2007, she was the secretary of Scenic Hudson, and from 1990 to 2011, she was a member of the board of directors for the Bard Music Festival.
Ms. Impellizzeri prepared for her endeavors by earning a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Smith College in 1955 and a Master of Arts from Yale University in 1957. She proceeded to become a charted life underwriter and a chartered financial consultant.
As a testament to her achievements, Ms. Impellizzeri was named to the Academy of Women Achievers by the YWCA of the City of New York in 1978 and received a Fulbright scholarship in Germany from 1955 to 1956. She also received the 2017 Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award. Further, she was featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
