An expert in psychosocial cultural functioning, Anne E. Bashore is renowned as a nursing educator and has more than 35 years of distinguished service to her field. As a child living in England, she studied ballet and wanted to dance professionally until a school assignment sparked her interest in nursing. She subsequently graduated from the Maumee Valley School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio, in 1964. She further obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing for the Medical College of Ohio in 1987. Ms. Bashore is specialized in psychiatric nursing and burn care.
From 1970 to 1971, Ms. Bashore worked as a staff nurse for Libbey Glass in Toledo. She served at the Saint Vincent Medical Center of Toledo as a clinical specialist in the burn unit and medical-surgical nursing from 1974 to 1984. From 1984 to 1986, she was active as a case manager at the Staff Builders Health Agency in Toledo, and a practical nurse educator at the Toledo School of Practical Nursing from 1986 to 1999. Since 1989, Ms. Bashore has excelled as the owner of Saint Anne’s Limited Real Estate Investment.
Ms. Bashore is proud of the community work she was able to conduct as a real estate specialist, including convincing the 775 active members of her church to convert a building on the property into a rental, creating a revenue stream for the church. She was the sixth person in Ohio to receive the Ohio Professional Housing Provider certification and established a rent-to-own program for several real estate clients. She has participated in drug abuse prevention programs and formed Under One Roof, a community food bank uniting the efforts of a local hospital and seven churches to provide nutrition assistance to clients. She was also chairman and co-chairman of the semi-annual St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Maumee rummage sale; in 12 years, it raised $250,000, all of which went back to the community. Ms. Bashore is further a member of the American Nurses Association and the Ohio Organization of Practical Nurse Educators.
Likewise, Ms. Bashore took over the local food pantry. It consisted of one set of shelves that were built into a community food pantry, which included seven churches plus the local hospital foundation. The church expanded into the garage to accommodate the growth of the pantry and made it handicap accessible. Although she resigned between 2016 and 2017, Ms. Bashore ran it for 10 to 15 years in conjunction with chairing the aforementioned church rummage sale.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Bashore is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award. Moreover, she was selected for inclusion in the fourth and fifth editions of Who’s Who in American Nursing. Ms. Bashore would like to be remembered by her peers as someone who did her best wherever she was called. In addition, in education, what motivated her was that she wanted her students to see the whole picture and give care to the person, not just the patient.
