Building a 15-year career defined by dedication, innovation and leadership, Amy L. Morgan, NRP has distinguished herself in the field of emergency medical services. She currently serves as a paramedic with Emergency Medical Services of Arkansas, based in Forrest City, Arkansas. Ms. Morgan begins each shift by meticulously inspecting her ambulance and ensuring all equipment and supplies are operational. Her responsibilities include preparing for emergency 911 responses and responding to a broad spectrum of medical incidents, ranging from minor injuries to major trauma events and multi-patient emergencies.
In her current role, Ms. Morgan also coordinates patient transfers between hospitals, such as for patients requiring specialized care at stroke centers or cardiac catheterization laboratories. She has provided prehospital care during large-scale emergencies such as tornadoes, shootings and other mass-casualty incidents. Demonstrating unwavering commitment, Ms. Morgan has covered shifts during staffing shortages, sometimes working up to 96 consecutive hours to ensure continuous ambulance coverage for the county. Her duties also encompass completing detailed patient care reports to support medical decision-making and legal compliance.
In addition to her work as a paramedic, Ms. Morgan has contributed as an emergency medical technician with Emerson Ambulance Service since 2015 and at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital since 2013. In these capacities, she delivers advanced life-support interventions under physician-directed protocols, including medication administration, intravenous placement, nasogastric tube insertion, rapid sequence intubation, chest decompression and emergency surgical airway procedures. She maintains her proficiency through continuous skills training and clinical education in advanced medical procedures.
Ms. Morgan also provides guidance as a field training officer, mentoring and evaluating new emergency medical technicians and paramedics in real-world clinical environments. Furthering her dedication to preparing future professionals for the field’s demands, she serves as a paramedic instructor and clinical coordinator for the medical technician and paramedic program at the University of Arkansas East Arkansas Community College (UA-EACC). Ms. Morgan’s teaching philosophy emphasizes patient-centered care, instructing trainees to treat every patient with the same diligence and compassion they would extend to their own family members.
Prior to entering the field of emergency medical services, Ms. Morgan spent 16 years transporting inmates across the United States as an extradition agent for a private company certified by the Tennessee Department of Law Enforcement. During this time, she administered aspirin and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation to save an inmate’s life during transport. This pivotal experience inspired Ms. Morgan to pursue formal training in emergency care. Guided by family members who owned an ambulance company and mentored by her spouse, Britt — an experienced paramedic — she transitioned into health care with determination.
Serving as a foundation for her performance in the field, Ms. Morgan sought an education before beginning her professional journey. She obtained paramedic certification from Arkansas State University in 2010. Subsequently, Ms. Morgan earned an Associate of Applied Science with an emphasis in nursing and paramedicine from Black River Technical College in 2013. Further establishing her credentials, she has completed training in CPR and as a national registered paramedic, an advanced cardiovascular life support instructor and a basic life support instructor. She is currently pursuing an instructor license.
Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Morgan is distinguished by her historic achievement in 2020 as the first female single-role paramedic in the West Memphis Fire Department’s history. Beyond her primary commitments, she is actively involved in civic service as a volunteer instructor for first aid courses and as a coach for basketball and baseball teams.
Outside of her career, Ms. Morgan is a devoted partner to Britt and a loving mother to her adopted son, Cason, whom she welcomed into her home shortly after his ninth birthday. She takes an active role in Cason’s academic development and also guides his participation in sports.
As she continues on her professional path, Ms. Morgan looks forward to earning a bachelor’s degree and assuming the role of program director for the paramedic and emergency medical technician program at UA-EACC. This will mark the first time a woman has ever held this position, reflecting her ongoing commitment to leadership within a traditionally male-dominated field. Ms. Morgan remains committed to advancing emergency medical services through education, emphasis on higher standards and advocacy for efforts to provide mental health support systems for medics facing occupational trauma. Her career demonstrates resilience, compassion and a drive to elevate the profession for future generations.
