Accumulating 35 years of experience as a registered nurse, Ms. Dylong’s first name, “Alexandra,” translates to “helper of mankind.” Alexandra Dylong, RN, CNOR, feels as though she was born to help others. One of her grandmothers, Mary L. Dylong, was a nurse and the other, Ann Catherine Chaltas, was a domestic engineer. Her father was against her becoming a nurse initially, hiding the fact that her own mother was a nurse, but she worked hard and made her own way. She first joined Christ Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1968, remaining there for 11 years before transferring to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, from 1979 until her retirement in 2003.
Prior to the start of her professional career, Ms. Dylong pursued a formal education at Jersey City State College, where she attained a Bachelor of Arts in health science and education in 1976. Before graduating with this academic degree, she attended grade school at PS #20 in Jersey City from the ages of 5 to 14 years old. She then attended and graduated from high school at St. Dominic Academy in Jersey City in 1968.
Now in retirement, Ms. Dylong would like to be remembered by her peers as intelligent and as someone who knew what she was doing and taught them the ropes. She loved her job because every day was different and a new surprise with a patient. She is the proud mother of three wonderful children, Michael, Meeghan and Mathew, as well as a doting grandmother to three beloved grandchildren. In honor of her accomplishments, Ms. Dylong was awarded an Excellence in Education Award.
