NANCY WHITE

Armed with tenacity and a willingness to take risks, Nancy White is celebrating nearly five decades of professional excellence. Originally a professional artist in Houston from 1970 to 1977, Dr. White eventually came to see the role art could play in healing. She used her talents to serve as an art therapist at the Galveston County Hospital in Texas City between 1976 and 1977, and fell in love with helping others. In 1978, she opened her own private psychotherapy practice in Houston, and has been there ever since. The natural progression of professions thrilled Dr. White, who is a strong believer in the importance of following your passions, no matter where they take you.

When Dr. White isn’t working in a professional setting, she enjoys using her background to help out in the community. She has been the founder and clinical director of Unique Mind Care since 2007, and is involved with prominent organizations like the American Board of Sexology, the American Association of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, and the International Academy of Professional Counselng and Psychotherapy. Dr. White has also served in leadership roles with The Meta Center, The Texas Meta Corp., the Enhancement Institute, and the PAIRS Foundation, as well as the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research and the Society for Neuronal Regulation.

​With such a unique background, Dr. White felt it was only natural to contribute to the growth of the younger generations. She has been a national seminar leader for Practical Application of Intimate Relationships Skills programs in Houston since 1989, and is a consultant editor for the Journal of Neurotherapy. She has also served as a member of the field faculty at Norwich University, and as an author of articles for professional journals and chapters for books.

Dr. White prepared for her endeavors by graduating magna cum laude from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1976, and by earning a Master of Arts from the same school in 1978. To coincide with her career evolution, she continued her education at the Union Institute in Cincinnati, where she obtained a PhD in clinical psychology in 1985. Dr. White also became a diplomate and clinical supervisor of the American Board of Sexology, a licensed marriage and family therapist, a certified sex therapist and neurotherapist, an advanced addiction counselor through the American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), and a diplomate of the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance.

In light of her achievements, Dr. White has earned a number of accolades over the years. She was the recipient of the Merit Award from the Southwest Watercolor Society and the 1st Prize from the Jewish Community Center in 1976, and a citation from Fine Arts Texas and the Merit Award from the Watercolor Art Society of Houston in 1977. Between 1986 and 2016, she has been honored in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who of American Women.
