JACQUETTA ANDERSON DAVIS

Jacquetta Anderson Davis has accumulated more than 38 years in education as an English language educator and curriculum writer for English as a second language at the East Windsor Regional School District in Hightstown, New Jersey. Hired by the school district in 1981 just after completing a bachelor’s degree, she also spent 15 years as a missionary and evangelist at various churches throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey between 1975 and 1990. Additionally, she spent one year as a foreign missionary on the Fiji Islands through the United Missionary Fellowship Inc., in Sacramento, California, during 1978.

Outside of her full-time commitments in the classroom, Ms. Davis was involved with the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages International Association, where she served as a workshop presenter at several conferences in Miami and Chicago. She was also involved with the Central Jersey Network of Black Women. In 1986, Ms. Davis notably co-authored an English as a second language curriculum management manual titled “English as a Second Language Management Program K-12.”

Known for her involvement in the community, Ms. Davis has proudly been teaching Sunday school at various churches in Trenton, New Jersey, since 1991 and has been a board member of Educational Voices of Change since 2016. She was a guest speaker on numerous occasions to women and children in churches across Pennsylvania and New Jersey for close to 30 years until 2006, and recently served on the New Jersey Bilingual Spanish Voting Board of Workers between 2008 and 2019.

Ms. Davis grew up in a loving family that included a solid religious background. Learning the importance of making an impact in the world, she decided to pursue a career as both an educator and as a missionary. She first received a bachelor’s degree in bible studies at Philadelphia College of Bible, now known as Cairn University, in 1979, followed by a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in education at the College of New Jersey in 1981 and 1985, respectively. Ms. Davis is a certified elementary education teacher and English as second language educator in the State of New Jersey, and is a certified master gardener and certified master food preserver in the State of New Jersey.

To stay current in her field, Ms. Davis has maintained membership with the New Jersey Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages and Bilingual Education, and the New Jersey Education Association. She is also a member of the Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education, from which she received an honorary mention for the Distinguished Educator Award by the Trenton State College chapter in 1991. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Davis has been included in the sixth edition of Who’s Who in American Education.
